I know! Unfortunately I just worked out what the weekend is likely to cost and I'm not sure if I can afford it!

Track insurance is a worry for me - I wouldn't feel happy going without it but £230 for crap cover! They're having a laugh. What's everyone else doing insurance wise?

I'd be interested being a "own car" track virgin as it was - up until now I've not had to worry about insurance as someone else has always sorted it - but what cover is available out there?

gerrof! I gave rob a fari few laps in the amg last time, and didn't get a sniff of gt2 (too busy lying on the road hyperventilating after a run in jeremyc's ice blue missile!) so I should go first adam! .

- That is if said Zonda makes it back from the US in one piece.... Will watch out for that one on the tv later in the year....

bookatrack seem to do some insurance with competition car insurance. Seems quite good really, a bit costly maybe...

The offer they do on the site seems a bit odd though - does it mean that they will cover you for the set price no matter what your previous driving history has been?? - if that is the case, it seems remarkably good value?!!

Well, having been to the last one in the wife's Saxo, I'm booked up again to bring *my* car. Much more suited...

Must pack some spare brake pads...

See you all there!

Check the terms and conditions of your road car cover. Unless specifically excluded you may have some joy in getting your insurers to admit that in fact you are covered.

Other than that, talk to Competition Car Insurance. I know they put their premiums up as they got stung badly one year but I didn't realise they were that high. You may have optional levels of cover available which could reduce the premium. e.g. insure for £5K/10K of damage, not the whole car's value etc.

We simply pass on the insurance provided from CCI, you would be quoted the same price and have the same conditions as if you were to contact them direct.

The scheme they run is how most track insurance works. You take out a specific amount of cover to cover any damage that is caused while on track. It doesn't cover things like your engine blowing up though.

There is a sliding scale depending on the amount of cover and excess you want to pay, for example:

£8000 worth of cover with a £1000 excess would cost £117.50.

Most people generally do not take out cover to the value of the car just to cover the expected cost if you were to put the car into some armco or similar

If a very personal thing.. I must admit that it is the extreme minority of people that take out specific track insurance. Our rules on overtaking should ensure that no car-to-car contact will take place and therfore any damage you do to your car is normally down to you

We'll be there again..

Haven't read the whole thread yet, but Manek - yes, BAT to caterham superlights - Smifffy & I used one last year - a lovely track tool and perfect for the length of circuit - could feel under powered on some of the bigger circuits, but just right at Folembray..

It was such a superb weekend last time it'd be madness for me to miss it..

And as for Sideways Satan in his Zondo well... OMFG

Hope I can get a passenger ride in that!!

Two 'track day virgin' - type questions:
The amounts people have mentioned for track day insurance cover (which I'm thinking about as A.J Manning only covers TVRCC sponsored days) - is this for one day or for annual unlimited cover? It seems expensive for one day but cheap for several.

Also, what tyre wear can I expect (Chimaera 500)after the day - if my half-worn tyres are going to end up on the fabric I'll get new tyres on before I go.

From what I can see the cover is for one day and on track only.

As for tyre wear, depends how you drive If they are only half worn I doubt they will get totally worn down from one trackday.

Your tyres will be fine. Folembray doesn't have a particularly abrasive surface.

The insurance is for 1 day only.

Try phoning Chris at Egger Lawson, he gave a comparably reasonable quote, although this type of specialist insurance is quite expensive - but then the risk of having a crunch on a track day is far higher than just numptying around on the road.

The one positive of track day insurance is that you don't have to insure the full value of the car, just the value of the damage you think you might do to it. Egger Lawson also allow you to pay extra to cover the engine + drivetrain.

Shop around though, it's the one way to get the best price.

As for tyres, well, that all depends on how loony you go through the day, but Ian's right, the surface at Folembray is smooth and not very tyre munching. It'll be interesting to see sideways Satan's tyres at the end of the day

Blimey! Only 10 places left now, it seems everyone's paying up and taking the spaces. It's gonna be a cracker!! Anyone booked provisionally had better pay up by the looks of things...

See you all there.
