Andy,

You're a gent. I'll keep in touch as if I can make the 24th (will need to decide definitely by Monday) I'll take you up on the offer a your spare lid. Medium'd fine - that's me, Mr Average!

Could I take my Son as a passenger? As I said, totally naive about these things. If I could, does the same age restriction apply - i.e. 16? Or is it best to check directly with Brands?

Certainly hope that I can make it as I'm getting a bit fired up and don't want to have to wait until a later meet. BTW, what should I expect in terms of wear'n'tear? My Tam will have just had it's 6k service the week before so tyres and brakes are new. Will I need new ones afterwards!!

Lee 16 is the minimum age, You will not get through a set of tyres and breaks. Why not ring Mannings and see if you can get your insurance transfered over to them.

Helmets, the TVRCC doesn't rent them. You'll have buy and make sure they are typeA/ or B so you can access all tracks/meets with it.
I can loan you a lid tho if required. I have a couple of Spare mediums (as its your first day cheers andy
Andy, quick question... I have asked the office for forms or whatever and I'm tempted to sign up for this one! What's the exact position on helmets? I have a helmet that I used at Bedford Autodrome but it's old (I know the arguments about getting a new one) thing is I don't do enought track days to make it worthwhile. This one dates back to when I raced an MGA in the 70's! Will it be acceptable, or can I borrow one? Cheers Rich...

Cheers Mark. Dunno if I'll be happy to drag my son along if he can't passenger with me, or someone. We'll see, as I do want to go....

It's easier than transfering over as I haven't commited to A Plan yet. They're good, but the no track day cover is a real bummer. Manning quoting £1050 inclusive, A Plan £750 but no track day cover (plus additional £270 excess). I know that these are both expensive, but (a) first year of car so paying for new4old on policy apparently - will drop 25% next year, and (b) the bl*&dy numpty who ran into the side of me last year is refusing to stand up for it so I have an outstanding claim (court action here I come). The bast$rd is costing me dear.....

I think your helmet should be BS6658 approved or one of the Snell ratings. If it is a 70s helmet it won't be as this probably predates any of these standards. If it looks like it belongs on Biggles then I doubt you will get away with it. I have a spare large helmet if you need it...

Thanks Mark. If I need a large one, I know who to ask.....

Not sure how to reply about not touching your helmet, without offending. But the words not & bargepole feature heavily.......;-)

OK Regs time.

MSV (Mr Palmer) operate Brands, and they were the ones that bought all this in around 2003.

Must be Type A/B

Must be 16 or over.

I've been asked about my helmet (oo-eer) but was OK (in 2003) and havn't been asked since.

my son looked lots younger than 16 and has only ever been asked at Le Mans - NOT MSV
(a week after his birthday) so that was alright.

if staying overnight, we are at the Premiertravelinn of M26 J2a (8miles from BH)

Hi Andy, I'm up for this now, just booked with the office so I'll be seeing you there on the Monday. Bit concerened about me helmet though It's BS 2495-77 but it's served me well over the years. Have you got a large one I could borrow if mine is refused? Cheers Rich...

Which I've just looked up on the internet and appears to be the previous standard to BS6658-85

Rich, I also have a spare if you or anyone else is in need.
TVRcc dont hire them although Brands have a rack full in the briefing room, £10 plus deposit IIRC

Hi Andy,

I've booked the 24th through the club office today, so I'll def take you up on your offer to borrow a helmet if it's still OK.

Complete newbie to this (my objectives are to firstly NOT wipe out in any way, and secondly to LEARN!) so any advice/info gratefully received.

Although I guess the drivers pack will give me lots of necessary info (don't even know what time I need to be there, or how long it goes on for!)

BTW Gone for Mannings Insurance, so full track day cover etc. Just have to enjoy it so that I go on more than one this year!

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the lid. I may well join you all at the hotel; what's the other guy that's from this area's PH tag?

Looking forward to the day; so I'll not need anything like pare tyres and brakes!?

BTW Andy, I think that I will take you up on your offer to take me round the track too. But how/when do I book for the instructors? As I said, objective is to stay safe and learn as much as I can.

OK, I'm booked in at the Premier Travel Inn now too.

Spending all my hard earned; looks like I'll have to give up my beer habit to finance my track day one!
