Just back from my first visit to the Nordschliefe.

Hats off to both Ben Lovejoy's excellent www.nurburgring.org.uk site and www.northloop.co.uk for providing the pre-trip planning information.

We took over a VX220 turbo and my highly unsuitable Volvo S60 D5.

Accomodations were provided by the Hohe Acht gasthaus www.hohe-acht.com

Nicely up in the hills above the track.

On Sunday we made use of a BMW 325i from www.rent-racecar.de at Ring Racing.

Between closures, rain and around a 30min lunch break we managed 14 laps between the 3 of us by doing 2 laps and changing drivers. The car was nicely prepared, with a full cage, race seats and harnesses, and no interior to weigh it down
Cost was around €450 for the day. They have 7 cars currently, from a 318 Compact upto a very serious looking M3. Recommended.

We took Monday a little easier, a did some spectacting...

Then I ventured out in my Volvo, reseting the trip computer in the queue for the barrier. Did the lap @ 28mpg which must be once of the most economical laps ever. At my moderate beginners' pace the D5 motored around nicely and its ability to torque-monster out of bends meant you really had to make an effort in backing off to let people past rather than just move aside.

The other tip we have for other first timers is to sort out dinner reservations, not unsurprisingly everyone seems to head out for dinner around an hour after close-of-play, so all the popular eating haunts fill up quickly. On Sunday night we had to try 4 or 5 places until we got a table.

Looking forward to Trip #2.

What was the VX like round the track? I am going on the weekend of the 20th in mine.

Seemed good from my spot in the passenger seat... Got upto an indicated 130mph at one point.

I was driving the VX and it was very impressive. Hadn't driven it on a track before and was a bit worried how it might cope with the 'Ring. Nothing to fear though - the car felt really agile and predictable and after driving the fairly gutless 325 it was good to have some real punch out of the 3rd and 4th gear corners that dominate the 'Ring

Recommend uprating the brake pads before you go if you haven't done so already and watch out for numpties in the 75 experience convoys!
