I was wondering what speeds you people normally achieve on various tracks, on particular bends and driving what cars. By posting yours we could build an interesting "knowledge base". Obviously a lot depends on a driver but hopefully it will be possible to find out what can realistically be achieved when driving well wink
Ideal format would be:
Car driven, Track, Conditions (dry / wet),
For all corners: your entry and exit speed.

I'm not great & just starting, at Rockighnam International in an MR2 MK1 (122hp) my best speeds roughly (I think just by the speedo) were:
  • Chicane: 75>
  • Deene: <40 to 50 on exit
  • Yentwood: around >45
  • Chapman: rougly 50 something
  • Pif Paf: rougly 60
  • Kikby: >40 to 55 on exit
  • Gracelands: >60 to <70 on exit
  • Tarzan: 40 to 45> on exit
  • Brook: <60
  • Gretton <40 to 45 on exit

Very true, then there are the Baron/Trilby comedy slicks that take over reading to a whole new level biggrin

I rarely look at the speedo, apart from a few corners:

115mph though Craners at Donington in the dry
141mph approaching Schwedenkreuz at the Nurburgring
70mph Ex-Muhle at same.
132mph through Fuchsrohe at same.

Its worth mentioning that my speedo has about 4-6mph over-read at the higher speeds.

You will get a lot quicker if you concentrate on the bend line rather than watching the speedowink

Mmmmmm, well you know how bad those speedos read, ....... 15mph was probably more realistic. Just make sure you stick to the speed limit going to Spa, ... look forward to seeing you Sunday night!!! Your turn for buying the beer!!!!

i tried to watch the speedo earlier this month at Bedford to try to get one particular bend sorted (half way down the back straight) but found it almost impossible as had to look up for the bend and then the speed had changed.

Need a DL1 i think!

OK, done the New Anglesey Coastal, some of my speeds:
  • Turn One - over 70 all over
  • Banked hairpin - from sub 50 to over 50 (though would be able to do morewink
  • Rocket (left hander) - sub 40

What speed were you going into the uphill just before braking for Rocket?
Our target speed on turn-in was 100, I managed just over a ton (probably about 103-ish) in our Supercharged MK1 MR2. One or two of the other MK1ers we were with managed 110.

I also managed a 90 entrance speed into School in our N/A MK1 MR2 last year, but the geometry was way out (one of the rear was visibly toeing out eek). It did make for some good goonage though biggrin

The only other corner I remember speeds at was a recent BaT event at Spa where I managed entering Eau Rouge at 110 and exiting at 95 in our N/A. The limiting factor were the A539's though. I think we may have been able to squeeze a few more given some Yoko AO48's or similar.

Every car is going to give a different enterance/exit speed due to geometry setting, tyre choice and obviously sheer power etc... It would be insane to try keep pace with a fully track prepped GT3 through a corner in an MR2 for instance biggrin

Are you doing Rockingham with BaT on the 23rd of this month?

I was hitting between 115 mph and 120 mph through Avon Rise just before braking hard for Quarry on Castle Combe in the Corrado, but I have no idea of my cornering speeds on any of the bends - I'm too busy driving to waste concentration on the speedo.

You obviously aren't going that well if you have time to look at the speedo. If you are on the limit the it's the last thing you should be looking at!

Hi System-G, I wasn't usually maxing it on the straight but managed to get over 95 the fastest. Yep will be at Rockingham on the 23rd wink Oh, btw do you know any of your conrering speeds at the new coastal ?

Pdd, obviously most of the time you don't focus on the speedo but still can have a quick look and it may help in a way too. Mind you some good drivers can chat and slide cars as seen on the TV, so a glimpse at the speedo is nothing compared to that wink

As per other respondents, I'm don't look at the speedo during the corner. However, just before braking at the ends of various straights:

- Goodwood, Lavant Straight: 120mph (Exige S), 125mph (350Z)
- Bedford GT, the long straight before the kink: 120mph (Exige S), 130mph (350Z)
- Silverstone, Hangar: 120mph (Exise S)
- Spa, Kemmel (braking for Les Combes): 125mph (Exige S)
- Brands, Brabham: 110-115mph (Exige S)

From which I think we can summise that the Exige tops out at about 120 unless the straight is very long, and the 350Z at 130.

Needless to say the Exige can carry much more corner speed.

All very rough measurements subject to huge observational error and faulty memory.

Ah, on Bedford GT I seem to recall about 130 before the back straight kink. Was definitely doing at least 150 whilst paxing in a Tuscan there biggrin

That Spa top speed does seem a wee bit conservative, my std Exige was pushing 120 there in the wet (certainly needed to go up into 5th gear).
In the dry it was certainly 130 but took an age to get there and the straight just seemed to go on forever. One of the GT3RS there that day said he saw 167 on the datalogger.

At Dijon recently my std'ish S1 Elise (150bhp) maxed at 125mph. This was at the rev limit in 4th, in 5th it refused to go past 120. frown
I also drove a friends S/C Honda Elise which maxed there at 153...
