I'm going to do my first trackday, an Evo introduction which is the best track to go for out of Snetterton and Cadwell Pk?

Cadwell park is a technically challenging, tight and relatively slow circuit in a chimaera. Snetterton is much faster with sweeping corners and you can really build up speed. it really depends what you want. both are lots of fun.

If you have the equipment, try doing both circuits on a video game (surprisingly useful for getting to know a circuit, as long as they use the same one - oulton has lots of different combinations).

Don't forget that both are a hell of a long way from Devon and i would strongly advise going up the night before and staying in a local B&B.

Thanks, great info, had a look at your profile and you look like the man to talk to, I know where Snetterton is, just stuck Cadwell into 'Autoroute'and it came up just north-east of Birmingham, is that right?

For a first trackday I'd recommend Snetterton: wider and more runoff.

Cadwell Park is great, but can be somewhat scary.

Cadwell Park is between Horncastle and Louth, Lincolnshire. If you want a B&B, The Old Vicarage is at Scamblesby, about a mile from the circuit, on 01507-343790.

Cadwell is in Lincolnshire, great circuit but very tight and twisty and almost single lane in places (if you use the full circuit). Round parts of the circuit there is also next to no run-off. Not a circuit for beginners IMHO. If only the club circuit is being used, then better, however the club circuit hairpin has a vicious camber change, tricky in the wet!!!!

Snetterton is wider, faster, bigger corners, though also has some challenging bits. Lots more run-off (some of it across old airfield surface. Much better for trackday beginners. Also has much more modern facilities and a petrol station with super-unleaded within spiting distance from the circuit.

Both circuits are a bloody long way from almost anywhere and are worth staying overnight nearby if doing a full day trackday.

Having done circuit days at both (several times) over the last 15 years, I would say leave Cadwell until you have got some experience and its probably better in a Scooby or a Caterham than a big engined TVR.

(The Tuscans used to go to Cadwell until there was a big startline crash, injured spectator, I was there, that probably sums it up)

Cadwell is possibly the best circuit in the country and i did my first ever race there. but it can be very unforgiving.


so although its not as nice a cirucit i think snet would be a better bet. just take it easy through coram very fast and if you get it wrong it can hurt...

snet would also give you a nice taste of speed down the straight.. other than coram if you go off your probably going to end up in a field rather than a tyre wall....

Having raced at both circuits many times, I'd say go for Snetterton. Cadwell is a fantastic circuit (one of my favourites), but is much narrower than Snetterton, has less run off, and is harder to learn. It's also a circuit that is more suited to Caterham sized cars, whereas Snetterton is ideal for something like a TVR.

There is a B&B just up the A11 from Snetterton (Breckland Lodge). The petrol station that was just outside the circuit entrance has gone now, however there is also a Shell Optimax garage about 5 minutes drive further north up the A11.

I've never been to Snetterton, but Cadwell is ace. I only found one bend which I didn't like - the sharp Right hander after the Hall Bends. Just couldn't get round it cleanly. I know my car is fast on long straights and to me a large open circuit just means I'll crash at 100mph instead of 70mph (IYKWIM).

What other circuit gives you the chance to get air? (under one wheel at least)

I really enjoyed the Snetterton day with the TVRCC and would definitely recommend it, if the city region organise another Snetterton track day I’ll be back this year, great fun in the Griff, good value as well.

Raced at both many times. Snett. is a flat 'airfield' type circuit and is the faster and probably safer as it has a lot of space if you come off and is the wider circuit, will test your cars top speed, engine and brakes !!!! Cadwell is one of my favourites, an old style narrow twisty almost bike circuit in the middle of no where and it always takes a long time to get there!!! There is very little run at cadwell so if you come of you will almost certainly hit tyres/banking and suffer damage. At cadwell it's definately worth getting some instruction on the lines etc. as it is quite hard. If its you first track day probably worth have some instruction at either. Enjoy!!

I'm hoping to take my Golf to Snetterton, provided I find time to replace all the worn suspension bushes before then (otherwise it will wander round the circuit like a drunken camel). I love Cadwell and have always wanted to drive round it, but Snetterton's a lot closer to home.

The City region will be back at Snetterton on Thursday April 8th 2004 - subject to confirmation of various other championship dates.

In terms of Snetterton vs Cadwell;

TVR Chimaera - Snetterton
Mk1 Golf - Cadwell

Having said that I hope to be in my Mk1 Golf at Snetterton in April. Danny - if I have a spare seat fitted you can come round with me and show me where I'm going wrong!

Definitely up for a ride! But I can tell you were you're going wrong straight away - driven wheels at the wrong end

Just a thought, have you thought of Castle Combe instead?

Closer to you, and bags of run off. They do a lot of racing at Combe in the TVR's so the track is obviously well suited for it

Sorry its not on the list, but you will come away with a big smile, especially Quarry
