Mods can we leave this here please. smile.

Hi everybody.

I've been thinking lately about joining the Army. I'm 20 doing a job I don't enjoy and get no satisfaction out of doing. It has no future and with in a few years the industry will be dead. I'm not sure of what I want to do with my life. I was wondering if anybody had any expreince of the Army and would they reccomend it?

Cheers.

I was never in the forces but my Brother and a good few friends have been

Whilst many would say it's a worthwhile venture (and I would agree) when this topic came up recently amongst friends they to a man said join the RAF not the Army as at least they treat you with respect

This came from some Army lads who were career guys and a couple of RAF lads who had done 5 years to get trades

Yes. Do it, you will never have so much fun and earn so much money so easily.

Don't believe it when they tell you you'll go windsurfing in the Caribbean.

Oh, join a trade that'll be useful on the outside. REME, Royal Signals, something like that.

I'll keep an eye on this thread. As it is something I am considering also and I'm in a similar situation to the OP.

ARFMY?

In your case Special forces wasn't it?

O/P

Do it, I was in for a fair few years and really enjoyed it, miss it still and still mates with a good few of the boys some 20 years on.

Life is short enough without regrets.

Everyone should try it.

I always used to say it was better than working and I still got paid.

Listen to the warrior. Why don't you come back and mouth off when you've done something?

Try the Royal Marines, if you find the training too difficult, you can probably join the Para's. smile

Or you could join the Royal Navy, and feel a man......or two.

Better the industry than you, especially with a name like 'Flanders'!

Get a trade that will convert back to civvie life as others have said.
Best of luck mate and enjoy it.

If the government plans go through, you might end up fixing French planes. Thats technically treason.

Cool, well as long as you have friends in the Royals I suppose that qualifies you too. Nowt but respect for booties, less so for those who belittle without ever having pulled on a set of combats.

Don't worry, I'm just sharing the banter.

I did 8 years in the Army and loved it. Has given me a good grounding for the rest of my life, and still in contact with most of the guys I served with. I decided though not to do the full 22 years as I wanted to have second career in the Police. Which I now do.

I was in the Royal Artillery, which to be honest I was pushed into by the recruiting Sgt, but ended up really enjoying. Big guns and all that !!

Do your research and go for something you will enjoy and maybe get a trade out of.

If I could have my time again I would join the REME as a recovery mechanic.

Been doing a fair bit of research anyway, going to try for Officer once I finish my degree. Already trying to prepare myself for the 15 months at Lympstone.

Back on topic OP, as long as you know we are a country currently at war and what that will likely mean for you after training, by all means go for it.
