Hi fellow PH's

My Wife has been called today from a headhunter. He is calling back this evening with more details about the role.

Any advice to pass on. How to approach it etc. She is in her first graduate position and has been with her company nearly 3 years.

The role would require re-location.

Any help much appreciated.

If he asks her to send her CV over before giving out any details of the role then it's most likely a phishing scam to collect lots of CV's to send out to employers. Even if they can't tell you who the role is with, they can give you details of what it involves etc. You should also find out where they got her details from.

Thanks for quick response.

He has given her some details of the role. But not who with. He is from a large headhunters who specialise in her industry.

So sounds the real deal so far.

Is she actually being headhunted or has the recruiter picked up the CV and simply giving her a call about a role which might fit her CV?

3 years out of uni doesn't sound like the hard to find or specialist niche skill-set that headhunters are actually employed to find.

This is what we were thinking. She is happy and progressing well with her current employer. Her CV is not currently in the public domain either. Does not use facebook etc has an anonoymous exisitence as is possible in modern times.

Only way we think she could have been picked up is by being recommended. The role she does has a lot of networking involved.

How is her current company doing?

I once worked for a company that used headhunters to get rid of managers that didn't fit. They passed the details to the headhunter in the hope of avoiding redundancy payments.

A friend (long time ago, different country) ran a headhunters. A ploy he devised was to ask all applicants to provide 2 PEER references. The details given were not used for references, but were used to cold call at a later date.

Someone who targets someone specifically for a role - unlike the modern term, which is someone searching the net for someone really quite suitable.

ie Marks and Spencers poaching the head of Morrisons would be head-hunting...

I would say someone who is tasked with targeting an individual for a specific company/role. That's not happening in this case.

edit. doh, too slow.

When I worked for a retail group, it was common for 'headhunters' to call stores and find out the name of store managers / deputy managers from the customer service desk.

They'd then call back later and ask for the person by name - making it sound like the employee had been deliberately sought out over all their peer group.

The reality was that, for example, Tesco were recruiting senior store management grades, and the agency employed took the easy option of punting the vacancies around the competition.
