based in S Cambs


The Assembly Team has been specifically created to produce the Company’s smaller systems to the highest level of efficiency and quality, reporting to the Production Manager.

The main responsibilities of this role are:

• Following a fixed process accurately, assembling, wiring and testing products
• Ability to use a PC based product testing program
• Reading and understanding basic mechanical and electrical drawings
• Sharing responsibility for the team’s quality and work output and for implementing continuous improvements
• Ensuring production documentation is kept up to date and accurate

The role of Assembly Technician is of vital importance to the Company and therefore successful applicants will be extremely conscientious in their attitude, which will be reflected in their appreciation of quality, cost and efficiency.

A flexible attitude towards working hours and a competent, keen personality are also key to this role.

City & Guilds/ONC/BTech or equivalent in an Electro/Mechanical Engineering subject.


• Experience of working in a technical production or assembly environment.
• Experience of working in a cell-type manufacturing environment, advantageous.
• Experience in mechanical and electrical assembly techniques.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, advantageous

By christ ! A proper real job in engineering on the shop floor, with a requirement for a reasonable skill set and some dexterity. I thought all them jobs had gone to Romania and China.

cry I wish there were some like this in the top half of the country.

I read this when he posted it, sounded very interesting and absolutely the kind of thing I should be doing.

I even have 'assembly technician' set up as one of my repeat searches on the job sites.

I'm guessing that Bombardier in Derby are about to shed 1000 appropriately qualified fitters. Problem would be that Derby is about the cheapest place to live, and it would be a shock to move southwards for most.
