There should be something in your contract about it.

I've recently started and mine states that in my probation period i must provide 1 weeks notice and 3 months thereafter.

Just a brief question of my own on the same subject, i'm on 3 months probation and as i mention after this it increases to 3-months notice period, i've heard that in the first 12 months by law i must only provide 1 months notice if i wish to leave, is this correct?

The statutory minimum notice based on time served is on the gov.uk website. You may have agreed to a longer but not shorter period in your contract if you have one.
