I have to say, since going self-employed in March, I have new found love for my job.

The actual day to day work is pretty much the same - spent the last 11 years working as a Consultant so was always out on different client sites anyway, but now I only have to fly my own flag...and get much better pay for doing the same thing!

No more office politics, and I was being pushed more towards line management, resourcing, etc. which is not for me.

For the record, I performance test IT systems.

Love my job. Didn't realise how much I loved my old job until a company we bought merged with ours and stuff went sour. I started a new job (working for our main supplier) 2 weeks ago. Same amount of time traveling, but when I'm in, I'm at home instead of an office 50 miles away.

The industry is IT security sales, I am a pre-sales engineer for a Firewall vendor for those that know the business.

Yes, very much. Interesting sector, work with lots of very intelligent people and unusually these days a good possibility of a job for life with decent progression.

My sister is thinking of doing this. From what I know the money is great, but it's a lot of stress for obvious reasons.

IT person at a charity.

Pay is good and the work is fine but I'd rather not have to do it.

I have 3 little ventures that keep my daily life varied enough for me to keep enjoying everything.

However I'm not enjoying at the moment after having a few non paying clients due to them disappearing and going under. Which has left me struggling.
Make that a no, just had a contract cancelled, due to start next week.

Utterly sick of it but finding another takes so bloody long and so much bloody effort. I am trying to start up on my own but there's the financial challenge (my wife!) of doing so!

Think I'd go mad here if it wasn't for PH and SELOC forums!

Mainly assess the efficiency of underground water distribution networks and implement improvement projects. Money is good, get to work in a variety of countries, petrol is cheaper than water, but I can spend every week of a month away from home.

Overall I enjoy the work but the travelling can be burden on the family.

No I dont.

The only two jobs i have ever done which i enjoyed were: Running a Marine fish and Aquarium supplies/installs business, and subsequently being a picture framer. Pretty much everything else has to some degree not been a pleasant experience. That said - much as another poster commented - work is something i do to maintain my lifestyle and support the household, it has never been something i did for fun. I suspect people who have jobs they actually enjoy are very very few and far between.

I am a contractor, currently I am working in Bradford.

I used to enjoy my job but they keep extending my contract and my enthusiasm is waning daily. I thought I had an out come September but alas that is going to be extended till December. What makes it worse is that I live away from home and only return at the weekends. Still the day rate is exceptional so I shouldn't really complain.

If I had written this post, the only difference would be the last sentence: For the record, I do Business & Enterprise Architecture Modelling.

In fact i'd go as far as to say I dont even consider it a 'job'.

Challenging, rewarding, great workplace atmosphere, relaxed (most of the time), slaves to bring us coffee and hot chocolate all day hehe

As a bonus the pay me well enough and give me 43 days holiday PA. I love shift work as well.

Job: Air Traffic Controller.

Engineer working in Nuclear R&D.

Sometimes I enjoy it sometimes it’s a means to an end and others frustrating and boring. The thing that has kept me here (it’s all I’ve ever know job wise give or take having different roles over the years) is the pay and T&C’s. Pay is good as is the annual leave, pension etc.

What’s frustrating is that allot of the job is keeping old buildings/plants which are well past their sell by date running and fire fighting, short sightedness from successive government policies has meant that from being a world leader in Nuclear Reactor R&D the next generation of reactors won’t be British designs.

The landscape has changed allot over the past 10 years and working with lifers who’ve had cushy well paid jobs all their lives can be frustrating. The amount of bureaucracy is a bloody joke and the amount jobs for jobs sake and old governmental pay structure means, I could take a pencil pushing role that you could train a monkey to do and still be paid the same.

It’s a very secure job though and I can’t see me doing anything else tbh.

hehe That's brilliant.

Long hours, pay is a bit tight at the moment.

But I get to play with silly cars all day and surf the net. What's not to like?
