Every time I look positions for trainee drivers they always return "We are no longer accepting applications for this position." etc :-(

Is it fastest finger first for these jobs?
Trainee driver roles have always had massive uptake, this is in part down to fact their isn't any set qualifications required and people seeing it as a way of earning big. The sift is brutal though as someone even wrote on here from application to rejection in a few days. For most single jobs you get several thousand if not tens of thousands of applicants. TOCs are getting very picky on who they take on, in many cases. Successful progress through the system just goes into a talent pool rather than a traditional application to start date system. These days you can be expected to lose out on a role purely on how close you are to the depot as the works within an hour of the depot is really the bare minimum, often choosing people to live as close as possible.
Yea that’s the feeling I am getting. Seems like they are prized roles.

Good so far, although we haven't left the classroom so I'm sure it'll get better.

Classroom can be a little tedious, but after a week of silly early starts you may want to be back in the classroom biggrin

I don't think I'm doing wrong by putting this in the public domain but my company has put a pause on all cab based training again with a few essential exceptions (return to work, trainees who have started their passout, etc) bad times to be a trainee, that all being said hopefully all TOCs are 'looking after' their trainees.

It's because the drivers know they won't have to drive trains anywhere, with it being mostly replacement buses wink

Wow that's original, Christ. Better risk going to hospital to get these sides stitched up.

At least you can confirm to the Dr that your sense of humour bypass was entirely successful

I assume that's the draw of the instructor role as most of them are still train drivers, they have to do 180 minutes of driving every quarter to stay competent (or something like that)

I can see how 9-3(ish) Mon-Fri appeals but it's not for me.

Still going on with us, although subject to change.

I gather there's still a backlog of guys who still haven't got all their hours in dating back to the original lockdown.

The word on the street is we're likely to be stood down atleast for a while. There's a driver course going through every 6 or 7 weeks so that's a lot of new drivers needing minders.

The last time my Trainee drove before joining me in the first week of December was the 21st of February 2020! Yeah, they'll probably be a backlog..

Bit worrying from a brain fade perspective, atleast our pay rises are time based and not skill based laugh

4 weeks complete tomorrow. I bought an A5 moleskin notebook thinking it would see me through the training and judging by how much I've filled it so far it'll be full by mid week next week.

You should.have nailed your mnemonics for passing a red signal with authority or wrong directions move reasons.

Tbh as you get wise you'll realise there is only one reason for both, because the signaller said so.

Signallers make errors so I’d take this advice with a pinch of salt..

Definitely, it’s your job to know everyone else’s as their mistake becomes your incident when you act...

'Yeah sorry mate it's the ARS, had your headcode down wrong. Just as well you didn't take that signal......'

Alarm bells would be any signaller that uses mate on a call.
