Sorry to post 10 years later! But didn’t want to create another post that already exists! Does anyone know what the manager car benefits are today for JLR/ VW at HQ?

Not sure if they have changed since I worked there, but 6 years ago it depended on grade as to the number of cars you could get and what you could choose

Management vehicles are similar as previously stated. 1 car at management grade, 2 cars at senior level. RR, RRS, I pace, F types, and I think some defenders are only accessible by senior level. Have to be paid for. I don't believe there is anything sub £300 a month now but I may be wrong. As with retail, stock is quite restricted, colleagues who in the past would spec what they wanted are now picking from a set list of model/colour/engine.
There was a salary sacrifice leasing deal via Arval for ipace that was open to all staff in 2020 but I don't believe that has been renewed.

As for privilege, that's a retail discount open to all staff, which does indeed still include Ford. JLR stuff is new or used, but they are separate schemes. To be honest it's not amazing, new JLR stuff is generally "up to 20%". Most stuff is more like 10. Used is usually via preferential finance deals. They are still expensive vehicles.

Ford stuff is normally discounted via financing deals, small amounts off and/or preferential interest rates. Figures for Ford stuff is easily found by googling ford privilege scheme as most dealer groups have a website with offers for each model and finance figures. Apparently these can be open to negotiation, knowing people who have taken advantage of it.

You need to be very careful what you buy as even with 20% off (some models - most are 10-15% off retail, and you can shop around and get close to that sort of discount anyway at times) the first year depreciation can exceed your discount.

Not all nameplates are on the scheme, and the discount, nameplates and exceptions vary every quarter. I don't find the finance that competitive either, albeit better than aftermarket finance.

I've never ended up doing it because the cost of the cars is high, so there's an interest debt to fund, and if I lost any more than a few grand in a year it'd hurt a lot financially. If you haven't got decent equity in the car you're getting out of, I think it's pretty prohibitive to buy into.

I've not yet seen a secondhand (think they're ex-management lease) car on the employee privilege website that isn't reserved!

For Fords, take a look at employee-voucher.co.uk which is John Grose. They built up a great rep with Ford Dunton employees who were tired of Essex based Ford dealers taking the piss with the employee discount scheme, and have been the go-to for Ford discount for decades. The money off isn't anything like as good as it used to be but last time I looked they were the best prices published. They don't tend to go lower than the numbers on the website though.

For me the Ford prices are too high to stomach, so we are in a Dacia Duster and quite happy with it at roughly half the monthly price of a Kuga.

I'm still at VW Group.

Everybody in the company gets one car on the employee scheme for between £80 and £110 a month (CO2 output-dependent), and there is no Company Car BIK. Mid-management grades and above get a fuel card. The maximum value of car available is dependent on grade, but you can order cars over your limit by paying 1.2% of the 'overband' difference in the retail price monthly.

In addition to this, everyone can order two discounted loan cars for close family. These are typically much cheaper than the open market - my wife currently has a top-spec Karoq for under £200 a month.

Thanks for all the responses!

JLR - thanks WelshPetrolHead! Are they ECO schemes with insurance included by any chance? Given the prices of the cars I can see why most managers are restricted to basic Evoque, Discos and Defenders!

VWG/FS - thanks legless, I take it if you’re brand aligned you’ll get the same brand but group/ FS roles are open to any vehicle? Seems like VW have the more generous package overall!

Recruiters are very vague so doesn’t help when you’re trying to decide!

When I bought an "ex demo/jlr management" Range Rover Supercharged a few years back the main dealer accidently left the previous keepers paperwork in it which showed he'd leased it for a year for the grand sum of just £350 a month!

I sometimes work near Pyms Lane in Crewe (Bentley factory now owned by Audi) and the car parks there are littered with vag products presumably on similar schemes. Seen a lot of obscure stuff like Audi S4s and S6s which Id imagine are offered at even better prices just so audi can show that they've actually 'sold' some.
Celebs get similar deals on JLR VIP scheme, also get insurance included as well.

I knew someone who worked at Bentley and they have or had a weird scheme which avoided employees paying BIK.

That's correct. Brand-aligned staff can normally only choose from that brand for their main car (but the two additional cars can be any brand).

I work in a group-level function, and can choose from any brand.

I've had everything from Golf Rs, VW Californias and Superb 280s to RS4s and SQ5s. I enjoy the variety. Currently have an Enyaq vRS and have an Arteon R Shooting Brake coming next. They're changed the sooner of 6 months or 9k miles.

All employees also get a free EV charger installation, and those eligible for fuel cards can claim back charging costs too.

Enyaq in Hyper Green! Blimey, didn’t realise the Cali was in, that’s a delightful summer treat!

I was on the stellantis / old PSA scheme a few years ago.
I had a car for circa £130 all in (5008 GT) wife had a discounted one at circa £250 (2008 GT).
After COVID the change cycle was extended from 6 months 6k to 15k no time limit.

Benefit if these schemes is the all in cost and massively reduced BIK, you can also claim the difference in mileage at car allowance rates from HMRC.

I work with a few people from JLR who are on the schem above leve 6 so the decent one and they have extended times in the cars now, still cheap and the all in cost makes a huge difference.

I'm looking at a role within Group, are there no restrictions on what you can have if you're in a non brand aligned role? If you're a high mileage user or in a customer facing role, would you be asked to go into a diesel? Also would you have an idea of what a grade E would be eligible for at all?

If you're non brand aligned, there are no restrictions. It doesn't matter what sort of job you have. It won't change a thing. If you're a high mileage user, the only consequence is that you'll be asked to change your car more frequently (9k miles or 6 months, whichever is earlier). It won't affect what car you get allocated though.

Grade E has an allowance of a list price of £57k. You can go over this for 1.2% of the list price difference every month though.

The only real restriction is the cars that are available on the scheme every month. It's been a bit limited for the last couple of years due to factory supply issues (but is improving), but in general it tends to be the cars with the best profit margins on the scheme - these tend to be high spec models in most ranges.

I've had things like Arteon Rs and Enyaq vRS without too much issue recently. Audis are currently a bit thin on the ground unless you want a Q3/5/7 or an A6, but in previous months things like S4s and RS5s have been available. Likewise, the place was a sea of Golf Rs at one time. More practically, things like ID Buzz, Mutivan and California tend to always be available too.

The choice of cars tends to heavily reflect what people are buying on the used market. Diesels are out of favour, so you won't find many diesels on the list at the moment.

Thank you very much for the insight, much appreciated! Must be one of the best schemes in the industry, I used to have access to an ECO scheme and it was a lot more hierachical with no allowance to overband etc.

I am from Nuneaton and a lot of people work for JLR here.

I guess things have tightened up in the last few years as the gym car park/ disabled spots are no longer occupied by brand new RR/RRS/Evoques and there have been some considerable downgrades.
