How much notice should an employer (public sector) give to ask an employee to work on a public holiday?

Alot of it depends on what your contract states in regards to BH's?

Usually about a week or less in my experience. Even when you start asking a month in advance of Xmas it invariably gets to around Dec 19th before the panic and planning starts.
