Has anybody here gone into the automotive industry - into a head office role - from another industry?

Thanks.
It's certainly possible - I did this about 10 years ago. Not to VW, but someone very similar. I'm sure that motor industry experience was an advantage but not essential to the job specification.

Thanks,

I have prior experience in the industry both during university (driver/sales assistant/fleet admin/general dogsbody/car park attendant smile) and six months in sales (that was interesting!) at a mix of Audi, VW and SEAT dealers.

Out of interest - why are you so focused with the treasury function in VW/other automotive?

Treasury/fx is the same everywhere and has no correlation to the product and is quite divorced from the rest of the business?

In many ways, they may want someone who is dispassionate about the product to ensure they are making the right decisions for the company.

I knew someone in finance at a race team and they actively screened to ensure that the finance team were pretty much not interested in cars...

Nope. They didn't mind a casual interest, but they wanted to ensure the team weren't biased in assumptions/risks/etc... so very few petrolheads in the team.

Thanks Vaud that is an interesting point you make. I want to combine my interests in automotive and finance and have a particular interest in the VW Group and their cars.

Perhaps I should apply to the Premier League HQ in that case wink
