Field Service Role - car allowance, costs etc.

Not if you're, as many field service engineers are, "home based".
Yes I commute from home to other client sites so it’s not classed as commutingSeems stupid that a van can be kept at home and not liable to tax despite it being in most cases more handy than a car, trips to Ikea or the tip etc
I get a Passat for work. It costs me £90 a month in extra tax.
I see the £90, not as a tax, but see it more as payment for a backup car/tip run/2nd car if missus wants to use fast car etc etc.
The money is much better spent on that than sat in my bank spent on a cheeky nandos.
Just use and abuse the work car

1.4tsi exec model I believe. It's only the tax of that 8k mate. So 25% of that will be 2000. Over 12 months that's 166 a month.
Comcar is a great website to check it on
Edit- it's 96 a month I pay. Also do you pay fuel benefit as that's a killer. I just pay the 96 plus 9p per mile for private use
