To cut a long story short i've been in my current workplace for coming up to seven years and for the past five i've tried to leave to go elsewhere, anywhere but it hasn't happened and my current situation keeps getting worse.

My boss recently left because he got fed up with the place and his role and I was told I was getting shoved into it (with no pay rise) whether I like it or not and the job has become an absolute nightmare.

The two directors don't actually have a clue how the place is run and what needs to be done and i'm currently being expected to do the work of three people everyday which is becoming unbearable especially when they are expecting stuff that is currently taking 3 days to be done to be done in an afternoon all while other work which is a month behind is still sitting and doesn't look like it's going to be done anytime soon.

I live in Glasgow and I just don't understand how after trying to find another place to work in the past five years in the third biggest city has amounted to absolutely nothing.

I've had my CV re-done countless times and had advice from lots of people everywhere including here but to no avail and I feel like my only option is to hand my notice in and leave my current place which I know people say you should never do without a job to go to but I honestly cannot face going into the place anymore. I'm really starting to feel like someone is pulling strings somewhere and i'm not in control of my life anymore.

I feel like if i've had this much bad luck in looking for a job though then it'll be even worse if employers see that I just randomly left my last job with nothing to go to.

I've always loved dogs and have thought about volunteering for the dogs trust if I left but I know that might not lead to anything.

If anyone is ever been or is an employer would you consider/hire someone that had ever left a job because they couldn't stand the place anymore??

i knew a bloke who couldn't get a job locally, in Newcastle, so moved to the job. Maybe that is what you need to do.

That's another option of course but a lot of places won't consider you unless you live locally and of course it would be risky moving somewhere where I don't know anybody and eating into my savings whilst trying to get a job.

Always a reason why not to do something. You said you can't find a job in 5 years the facts are you need to relocate.
The job you have now is a dead duck so focus on moving on. Maybe take something temp and really look for jobs further afield. ive applied and had interviews for jobs 100's mile away, they honestly don't care as long as you show commitment.
I know Scotland offers free education maybe look at a total change of career through retraining if you don't want to move.

Glad I'm not alone.

OP. Don't agree with jumping without some income to go to unless you have enough savings to live on for a minimum of a year or are prepared to move immediately you leave to find work elsewhere.

It does sound more like location is your biggest issue.

Health first OP, work, a distant...... 50th, give or take?

Leave if you have to leave. I did it once due to the toxic nature of the organisation, best thing I ever did.

Have a solid but short reason for leaving that you can use during interviews but definitely don't bad mouth. Projecting positive vibes is key imo.

Your short but solid reason for leaving shouldn't prove any issue or prompt further questions.

I wouldn't normally suggest this but if they really are that bad and you are starting to see cracks forming in your health then its time for drastic action;

Make your currently job less of a priority. By which I mean do your hours but not much more and stuff the consequences for the company. With the extra time you have freed up you can search for jobs, get some exercise, socialise etc. It's no good killing yourself for them.

I wouldn't want to leave a job without something to go to but if things are that bad then you might have to do that. You could perhaps work a few days a week for an agency doing whatever, just to keep some money coming in.
