Turning down a job offer you have already accepted

Well, I guess you'll do what suits you - which is the right thing to do - and this is just a casual chat over a virtual pint to see what others think.
My view remains the same - stay where you are. Let them know, eventually, that you turned down a bigger role - it might be seen as being a very honourable thing to have done. The company trying to tempt you back might also be impressed that you're staying put, particularly if you say 'look, I'd love to come back, the role is exciting, but it would not be fair to my new employers - can we talk in 6 months?' and then keep the dialogue open.
I would temper all of this advice with saying that I am quite old fashioned in my approach! However, I have employed hundreds of people over the years.
