C.V - Career Help
Discussion
Hi all,
First of all I've read this forum for quite a few years and especially kept a keen eye on this sub-forum, I've just been given two weeks redundancy notice from my employer and I'm now on the hunt for a new job.
Unfortunately I've not really got any specific skills having worked in admin/sales most of my life so I'm struggling with my next move, currently 26 and completely at a loss. I've fired out my C.V to some roles advertised but I just keep getting knocked back. Would anyone recommend a C.V writing service I could potentially use or they've used in the past?
Thanks
Nick

This is virtually identical to my current situation, almost spookily similar; I worked in marketing/sales for years, recently made redundant, 26, have applied to plenty of jobs without even getting to an interview once. I'm also at a bit of a crossroads with career direction.
One thing I have learned is that your CV can be bulletproof, but employers won't ever see it if you can't get through the firewall of online applications. Often your answers in application questionnaires are scanned by computers; if they don't see a specific set of keywords in your answers, your application goes straight into the bin without a human ever looking at it. It's an incredibly unfair system

Don't be picky for too long, I had found after taking a sabbatical from contracting once (2009 so was a bad time to be looking) that the longer i was on the bench (6 months plus) i found it harder to be taken seriously. I may have benefited from taking a lesser role whilst looking for something better.
I would also say don't be picky it is a very dangerous slope.
I tried to be more discerning the last time I was looking for work and ended up being out for a long time.
Mainly because you get into a downward spiral with only applying for stuff you really want and being endlessly disappointed!
I found it a really tough trough tog et out of quite honestly, and got seriously concerned about my sanity!!!
All I was being offered was low paid crap I didn't want and I never ever got anywhere with the stuff I wanted

I can't PM you, your settings apparently don't allow it. I may well be in a position to help, if you're still searching.
No worries if you're all sorted, but do let us know how you've got on.
