Forward thinking so thought I'd start a thread on jobs come retirement .

Full time employment is fine but working within something rewarding or based around interest being cars and motorbikes .

Basically anything other than the city financial ste !

Not sure postie is me but good exercise so I could be tempted .

50 now and hoping to make some financial changes this year to give me and family a few options .

Don't really want to work weekends or at least not Sunday's

I think the answer depends on (a) what you enjoy doing and (b) what you are so good at that pay you to do it.

A friend of mine has his own Accountancy practice and has a retired HMRC VAT Inspector working for him. He’s 75 with a very decent pension but he enjoys doing what he does.

Local car dealers use semi retired people to do pickups/drop offs etc - especially if you work for a premium brand you just taxi people round all day - except there’s no vomit, muggings and the cars are nicer

Depends how much you need the money or how much you just want something interesting to do to get you out of the house.

For various reasons I ended up helping a pal out last year parking cars at his Airport Carpark. Absolutely loved it.

Out in the sun (mostly) and got a tan, walked 10 miles plus a day (lost over a stone) and never felt so fit, great camaraderie with a great bunch of lads from all walks of life. Got to drive virtually every type of car from old bangers to the latest electric stuff up to Porsches and Maseratis (albeit only a few hundred yards max at 10mph!). Very illuminating, old Mercs were my favourite and ended up buying one!

There were a few ex-posties there plus several older retirees (inc. some bigwigs). One bloke said he did it when he was bored at 65 and was still there at 75 (fit as a fiddle and looked 55). Pay wasn't that good of course and zero hours contract so you just did how many hours you fancied which seemed to suit everyone (some only 1 day a week).

Due to unforeseen circumstances I need to earn some cash again but otherwise I would do this part time (and may do in the future). Miles better than sat at home withering away watching Bargain Hunt.

I came out of retirement to be a part-time 'Brand Ambassador'. Basically, a Demonstrator driver and trainer - our company moves demonstrator cars around the country and we do a full handover to the customer, explaining in detail how everything works.

We currently have contracts with Mercedes, Lexus, FIAT group (which tantalisingly includes Alfa, Maserati & Jeep, i.e. so QV, Ghibli and SRT8...) and others. I get to drive all over the country to places I haven't been to, meet some very interesting people and sample some excellent cars all at someone else's expense - and get paid (peanuts) for it. amongst our team, we have retired captains of industry, BBC producers, ex-helicopter pilots, all doing it just for something to do for a few days a week.

I quite enjoy it!

This is interesting will do some research on this. Are there paid positions within these organisations ?

Someone I know has an HGV (well, LGV these days) training school and would do me a deal on a course. I know there are all the things about needing 2 years experience etc, and I certainly don't want to be doing supermarket multi-drops, but if I could get occasional runs either moving interesting vehicles around or trucking for a band/musician, I think that might be pretty good.
