No problems. Takes a big man to admit it.

I wish I could get SC...

As an IT contractor I see so many roles that require it, but have yet to see one that will allow you to take the contract then get the clearance...
Seems a complete catch 22 to me!
Do private companies ask for SC as well? I assumed it was only Govt-related roles...?
Yes and no!

Yes - I was in a similar position where all the roles I liked the look of required you to already have SC. I applied for a job (Private Sector) and they said I required SC but they would sponsor it. I obviously underwent baseline security checks while the SC was being sorted.

No - The organisation I was at (as a contractor by the way) had loads of contracts in both the private and public sector including the MOD, so assume the reason I had to have it was primarily because of the Government connections and we were given projects to manage based on how much work we could take on rather than what sector it was in. Even the lady who emptied the bins and filled the vending machines had to undergo SC......as did the Window cleaners.

Everyone In the company I work for has either SC or DV (even the cleaners).

The business sponsors us through it, but only to the level that we need. As I work export markets only, I don’t need to (and wouldn’t be allowed to) see any UK TS stuff unaccompanied, so I only carry SC. To be honest, DV is sufficiently intrusive that I’m not that fussed about obtaining it and all the encumbrance that goes with it.

Depends on the clearance, I have held it multiple times.

Basic usually takes about a month or less, you will have to pay the Scotland thing and get the cash back, and you can usually start in most places with it pending, on supply of the paperwork, as long as the basics have been checked.

But for higher level stuff like Serco, Porton Down, bases etc you will not be allowed anywhere until everything is done and it can take weeks. And be aware the software is ste, it will only run on certain machines, I had to try 3 before it worked for one job, really cost me a lot of time.

And dont try ringing them, you will be on the phone for hours, think its better now but my experience was woeful for a job with MBDA
