Interview Overview:

My confidence, fine, in fact much better than previous ones
Absolutely everything else, complete train wreck! (Although I'm a pessimist so)

Good luck with your interview, uni isn't all its cracked up to be.

Taking a guess at where you are based, get onto the Eastern-Western website as they regularly have decent vacancies. A guy I worked with years ago during my short stint in the trade works for them and has done for a while (with a career break in between).
I remembered about their existence a couple of days ago. I'm certainly going to apply to a few of their openings

Yeah I don't get that job... I expected that as soon as I left so not a suprise

Will spend Wednesday applying to things at Eastern Western, doing more research into College, having a look into uni and (depending on my confidence) popping round to the local Carpenter/Joiner.

Have you considered the services? Go and see a recruiter but all the services will potentially teach you a trade. I work with a couple of chaps who learn't their trades in the RAF and they had a good time too.

Dealerships yes, company as a whole no. I've not got the balls to move down to England right now, and that is where 99.99% of jobs are, if that makes sense?
Overcome your problem with working away from base...the world is your Oyster

Financially I can't. I have no credit history, none at all, so how would I be able to get a mortgage? Why would anyone anyone trust me to give them their rent every month? Of course I would, I'm not an idiot, but no one would trust me enough to actually prove it. Thus I can't move away (as much as I would like to)

Flatshare there are always rooms to rent. If you want something you have to make the effort there are always reasons not to do something. I'll be honest you seem to be very dismissive for a 19 year old, you need to really think, things are not working where you are take a risk.

I had no credit rating when on placement year at uni but still secured rent on a single income. My parents put up the refundable deposit and acted as guarantors.

I probably am quite dismissive, but as I said I would move down if I felt I could, I don't feel I could do it. I've shared a room with my sister my whole life (still do), when I move out I want a place to myself, not to share. This obvipusly means flat share is out (I know you have your own room but sharing the rest of the property is basically the same thing)

That would be great, and I would do that if I could. Parents cannot afford to act as guarantors, while I would pay, anything could happen where they end getting lumped with it and they can't afford it. Bear in mind my dad is a warehouseman, my mum doesn't work (doesn't see the point in searching because "there's nothing out there" (her words, not mine)) and my sister does bugger all. My gran is only on her state pension so is hardly flush with cash... That's basically it, I don't talk to many other people in the family.
I've considered moving down, and it isn't an option for me at this current time (in a few years time it probably will be though, and I may well do it then)

Since quite a few people have said I should see about relocating for more opportunities:

I'll ask on the finance forum here and see whether it is possible given my current situation. I don't think it is, but as I already know, I've got no life experience. I know Pistonheads isn't exactly the best for it, but it would be a start and give a general idea, which depending on answers would allow me to expand upon/do more research into.

We're opening up some offshore positions shortly. Entry level but it's a start, east coast of Scotland.
If that's of interest then PM me and I'll give you some details. No promises but happy to put your CV in the pot.

You can get Jobseeker’s Allowance as long as your savings are under £16k, just you will get less than the full amount if they total over £8k. If you have £10k in the bank you should get something.

If I had 10k in the bank I would buy a car or asset, you then don't have 10k cash. I found job seekers helped me I did a few courses and found a job. It is worth it. Op you are still young this is the time to really think what you want to do, if you don't want to move fair enough but give it a try maybe have a look for jobs that provide accommodation like pubs, chalets etc mixing with new people is what you need you gain loads off it.

If that’s your goal. Stick to it and go for it. Work out how you can achieve it and do it!

Of course you could. You *could* buy a flat near or in Glasgow for £30k. Some places even less. You *could* do anything if you set your mind on it.

The reason people are suggesting not to is because at 18 you don't know your mind. You need to experience a bit of life first, be it here or abroad. Don't overthink it, just do *something*. At your age any mistakes are easily fixed.

The best thing to do with the £10k is probably use it for a house deposit. You're in central Scotland so that's enough deposit for a decent 2 bed flat.
Woeful advice.

So I've managed to get a Parts Apprenticeship at an Accident Repair Centre. It's 3 years, reasonable money for an Apprentice (as obviously they normally get paid next to nothing) and with a guaranteed job at the end (if I pass the apprenticeship). After that I'll work at said centre for a few years and either work my way up, or go somewhere else where I can work my way up. At least that's the plan, I know that lots can change in 3 months, nevermind 3 years! smile
