Has anyone paid for a CV review? Did you notice any difference when using your improved CV? If so, please can you recommend a provider?

Thanks.

I personally wouldn't. The problem with CV's is we all look for different things in them. I wanted to know a bit about the person, the guy I was interviewing with went more for the qualifications.

Went through a period when nearly all the applicants I had for a job had the same format on there CV's. Guess what they had all been on the job centre course.

You'd get much more constructive feedback speaking with an experienced recruiter/headhunter tbh. A lot of the online services will always say the CV needs work just so they can charge for it. If you do want to go the online route, google reviews of the company first; many will say they got told the same thing as everyone else just so they could get your business.

Yes, with rog007 on here. Massive difference that helped me hugely with my career. Most of the benefit came from the telecon that we had. I still refer back to the notes form our session regularly.

would not recommend
I have few different CV following the different guides, they are totally different format and different focus
some employer might look at A but other look at B even they are in same industry
Tailor your CV toward the nature of the company you applying would be a way better move

The best CV review that I have received, and I must admit that I haven't paid for this service but have had professionals in recruitment review them free, was from JobCentrePlus.

I was made redundant (voluntary) from the Civil Service and one of the happy perks from that situation was being able to sign on for beer money. As I was signing-on I was obliged to take advantage of the "back to work" services like finding jobs on their system and discussing them with whichever adviser I saw that week. One of these services was a one-to-one CV workshop.

I presented what I had, received feedback, typed a new one up based on the feedback, had it checked, and applied for two jobs that I was subsequently interviewed for and offered. One of those is the one I'm leaving next Friday after six years.

It's not often that I have taken the time to review a service or write a letter of thanks but that's what I did in this case. I received a very gracious reply to it.

I'm not sure that you could ask them to do this if you're still technically working but if you're out of work and willing to engage in the process of getting back into it there are some very useful resources out there.

I wouldn't go with one of the ones that advertise, but I have had a good experience with a careers coach recommended through an organisation that supports my profession.

Thanks Gary; and interesting to hear the discussion had some lasting value too.

I'm interested in this too.

I'm not unemployed, but I can see that my current role is shrinking and will disappear over time so I'd like to start looking around now for a move in to alternative employment while I'm not in a rush.

I haven't had a CV for over 10 years now, and I honestly have no idea where to start (I'm not very good at recognising my strengths or weaknesses).
Any hints on who I could talk to or where to look online for tips would be a great help.
