Hi,

I work for a very large famous multinational retail brand. Company has recently restructured the higher management and now the new management has decided to replace different in house systems with third party apps. Those in house systems are taken care by multiple teams globally and unfortunately the application i have been working on is going to be replaced some time next year.

Current development team size is around 6-7 people including development manger. 5 are in US, 1 in india and i am the only one in UK, i was hired last year in Jan to support UK business which has been doing very well so far.

The application i have been working on is very critical and its a customer facing franchisee POS application. We have around 1300 users globally using our system 24/7.

Everything runs by budget here, management assigns quarterly budget to each team. Since start of this year, company has let one permanent and two contractors go. I believe it was to do with budget but i can be wrong.

I am just wondering what is going to happen with my role. I work in a typical co-operate environment, i have asked my manager few times about the team situation after replacing a in house system and his answer was he doesn't know. He did mention that we will be just doing development around new system, mainly integration work.

Can someone who has gone through the similar situation, please share his experience.

I'm sorry to say this but you won't find out until they know for sure and are prepared to confirm one way or the other - since they wouldn't want to upset you or lose you in the interim period.
