Rode in a Chinook this morning. First time. A lot smaller than I'd imagined and a bit strange but very cool! Noisy as hell!

Living the dream; maybe.

Whilst sat at my desk looking at spreadsheets in a drizzly city in the UK makes me think "that'd be super cool"

Well done for taking the plunge, hope it's a great experience.

Directly under the Aft transmission is the noisiest bit, painfully loud!

That is cool..I love Chinooks. I used to work for EDS Defence on an Army base with a RAF base nearby. The Chinooks would often fly over and rattle our TAU.

Any updates? I'm interested to know what you think about the landscape, I thought it was stunning.

Nothing really to update at the moment. I'm still at the 2nd base. Food is decent and there seems to be a band of base cats here laugh

The landscape is deffo stunning. I can see snow covered mountains in the distance which look really pretty. Weather has been cold but not unbearable. Bit of snow, etc. Started to get back into the gym this past week as well.

My Romanian roommate has his alarm go off about an hour before I want to get up and it's ruining me. He's a very solid sleeper so his alarm sounds like a siren and like we are under attack. Honestly the first time I heard it, I absolutely st my pants! laugh

The main Headquarters (HQ RS) where the NATO Commander is, majority of the rooms are shared due to space. This would be improved they actually looked at all the nations "supplying" military presence and ruthlessly see if they are bringing anything to the party. It can seem like there is a lot of hangers-on when you go around. Other bases though, tend to be single occupancy for Expat and tend to be shared for those that are from Third Country National countries

Sounds a good opportunity even know Afghanistan not an ideal place. Maybe there might be other opportunities around the world for you?

I am indeed. On night shifts this week. Working a 12 hour shift tonight then next night off until Sunday.

I have discovered that we have a whole load of cats around the base which is great as I am bloody missing mine!

Do not be too sure about that.....depending if you are in a position to engage with the opposite sex, then there is opportunity. My office colleague in Kabul was a ex-Hungarian Grand Prix Grid Girl (2015 & 16!).

I’m assuming you’re no longer in Afghanistan given the US withdrawal.
How was it in the end? Glad you went?

I never saw that 2nd to last reply!

I didn't end up staying massively long, but I enjoyed the experience overall. I'm definitely an advocate for getting out of your comfort zone and seeing somewhere interesting as a result smile
