Some sound advice being shared here.

Delighted to review and pass comment if that remains helpful.

Re length of a CV; less is always more! The best CVs are a side (assuming they’re constructed well); the worst over 2 sides, for many reasons, not least the sanity of the shortlister/s!

CV?

How very quaint and retro - I haven’t seen a graduate CV for donkeys years...

In seriousness, most large practices, including us, will ask Graduates to fill in online applications, so his CV will only really be for smaller practices or a script for applications to larger ones.

When looking at engineer CVs - at all levels, including grad - I am looking for evidence that the candidate isn’t a complete techie geek but has the bones of some commercial acumen and client empathy, so I’d recommend that your son gets these attributes across

That did seem to be the case 15 years ago but most large organizations I work with have gone back to requesting a c.v. which they will automatically extract from to fill out internal forms.

It is true to say the hiring manager probably will not see the original c.v. It may be worth reading up on how the c.v. will be scanned and try to make it more easily consumed.
