Quite so. And whilst Witness Evidence can be compelling, your word against theirs can be a challenge hence the suggestion of writing to them noting their comments in a polite manner...

Exactly which is why the OP should take the advice of Jasandjules above. At least writing the email and talking about it as being confirmation and follow up to a meeting provides some evidence even if they don’t respond. Remember employment law is not like criminal law it is not about proving something beyond reasonable doubt
