Slightly OT - came across this article today. Developed second-hand depression reading this.

What I Rent: Adam, £1,690 a month for a studio flat in Canary Wharf

Well it wouldn't suit me. I don't mind Canary Wharf too much during the day, but I'd hate to actually live there.

Price-wise, I don't think it's too bad compared to a lot of London.

I live right out in zone 6 and £1,600 gets you a 2 bed flat, but not with any bills included. The article doesn't specifically mention if it includes council tax, but if it does, the all-in cost would be cheaper than a 1 bed flat here once you include bills and a £200 train fare.

Fair enough. I live in zone 3 in west London and pay that amount (between 2 of us) for a 2-bed, 2-bath, no bills. Just think it's a bit gimmicky all the gym/library/communal lounge/bar. Good I guess if you're an adult who still wants to live like a student.

Grand a month plus is pretty standard rent in London.

It's definitely gimmicky, but I can imagine it would appeal to someone who works in CW and has a main home up north for the weekends, or just a younger person ho can't be bothered with the commute. CW might not be 'proper' London, but it is much easier jumping on the Jubilee Line for a night out a couple of times a week than it is trying to get into CW for 9am!
