I couldn't see a thread for those of us going through it, thought one might be useful for some moral support.

I got notified today, takes effect end of tomorrow for minimum of 3 weeks. I can survive on the payments, just. Really worried about the future though.

Same for me, starts 1st April. Business was otherwise good so hoping it all works out in the end. Just need work to top up the 80% now.

Not Furloughed yet but strong possibility in the next 4/6 weeks. I was thinking of looking into a part time delivery driver job if it happens. Oh and my firm has already stated they will not be topping up.

For those in the unfortunate position to be on a government furlough scheme don't forget the subsidy maxes out at £2.5k per month. If you are on over £37.5k per year and your company is not topping up then you will get less than 80% of your salary.

I earn less than the 2.5k a month. Take home £2075 after tax,ni and minimum government pension contribution. Is it just as simple as 80% of take home?

I was phoned the morning after Boris announced the lockdown and told not to come in.

The business has been shut and all workers furloughed.

The 80% wages is actually alright. Means I will lose about £350 a month, but as I won't need to pay petrol costs and all the kids' extra-curricular clubs and events have been stopped then my outgoings will be reduced too.

I am worried for my job in the future. I can see a lot of our customers closing down and going out of business during this period of no trading, so I don't know if there will be enough left in three or six-months time for us to continue trading too.
On top of that, if I do get made redundant, I'm going to be looking for work in a market saturated with thousands, possibly millions, of similarly jobless people. It's all a bit bleak really.

I haven’t been furloughed but we have furloughed 50% of staff (about 60 people) and salaries across the business have been reduced by between 5% and 20% depending on your salary - I’ve had a 15% reduction. The reductions are across the business, including members of the SMT. The business is topping up to the newly revised (reduced) salaries for those who have been furloughed.

I’m in a sales role and they have also cancelled commission payments past April. So for me, if it lasts 6 months, my income will drop by approximately 30%-35% versus what it would have been.

All of these reductions (salary and commission if applicable) for everyone within the business are deferred so will in theory be paid at a later date when “economically viable” for the business to do so.

Still, I’ve got a job.

My boss rang me this afternoon. Furloughed for a month and then a review. I don’t know if I’ll have a job at the end of this! As has already been said, the 80% wage is ok as there are no fuel costs, children’s activities and socialising to shell out for.

Best of luck everyone, it ain’t going to be the same world when the dust settles!

I am on furlough for an initial period of 3 weeks from today.

My employer is being pretty good about it at present confirming 100% pay in April (+ payment of commission) and they will review it at the end of the 3 weeks.

Its a bit of a strange feeling but as a business decision it is a no brainer.

It's 80% of salary (pre tax).

They then take tax as normal from that figure.

Furlough, funny word, another yankee doodle import we slavishly employ.

Glad I started this thread, seems to be useful already.

My worry is when the scheme ends I’ll be made redundant as the business will have shrunk and my role can be absorbed into others.

My single task right now is to trim as much fat from my expenditure as possible. Having 3 cars on the road I have to keep taxed and insured is a nightmare. I wish I’d moved them into storage before all this kicked off. That would save me £150 a month!

Thanks, do you know if you have to pay ni and pension? Looked online but can't find anything definitive.

I expect so but I haven't looked into it all that closely.

In terms of furlough; does the company have to furlough all staff doing Role X. Or could they furlough 50% and keep the other 50% on?

Just asking as quite confused by what my company is doing. Business is down by nearly 60%. However all workforce still running as per normal. In a way I'm pleased because it means business evidently has enough reserves in the bank to keep going as per normal, but it would make sense to furlough 30% (maybe those with kids, would make their lives easier juggling home schooling + work) and just cover the 20%. Everyone wins - ?

I'm self-employed (no work at all coming in right now) so it's not me that's been furloughed.

A friend has been working from home (admin and accounts) for the past week and a half, but her employer - a building company - called her this morning to tell her that they are shutting up shop until the restrictions are lifted and we start getting back to normal. They are sorting out the furlough pay for her, which is fair enough.

Thing is, she has only worked there for 2 months, and is currently on a 3 months agency contract with the promise of a permanent job at the end of that period. Kind of a probation period with no risk to the employer if it doesn't work out.

Seems like a pretty decent employer to keep her on the books rather than just terminating the agency contract.

I was told I was going to be furloughed but told to do as much work as I could at home (not much, answer emails basically).

Now had a very firm phone call from work telling me NOT to do any work at all, including replying to emails. Seems like they have worked out what being furloughed actually means.

I can live with that. hehe

Currently off but being paid 100%.
This will be under review by the company in a few weeks time.
Expecting then to drop to 80%.
