Furlough pay is based on average of previous year or same month last year, whichever is greater.

Is there anyone here who has been on furlough for an extended period, and remains on furlough? How do you feel now the lockdown has been over for sometime and the rest of the country is mostly business as usual while you sit at home awaiting an uncertain fate?

I’ve now been furloughed for 12 weeks with no meaningful contact from my employer. No idea if I’ll be brought back or made redundant. The nature of my work means I can’t realistically find another job unless I leave my current industry and go back to square one in an unskilled job on a low wage taking an enormous pay cut.

I have to say it’s really starting to take a psychological toll on me now. I feel that coronavirus has ruined my career. Soon I could be out of a job with no realistic alternative jobs, unable to pay the mortgage etc and unable to support my family.
Yes I am in your situation too. st isn't it!

I really don't know if I'll have a job to go back to or not.

Have you offered to go back, contact them. I know a few people who did this and company snapped them up.

Yes, I've spoken to my MD a fortnight ago who has told me they're going to be bringing people back from furlough when they're required.

Our factory is up and running, but all our office-based staff are currently working from home. My role is IT support for our two sites but, as we were purchased by a much larger competitor a couple of years ago, they are currently managing with IT support from the UK head office which is a couple of hundred miles away.

Like everyone else I've never been in this situation before, but the company running without me being there does make me feel somewhat surplus to requirements. Time will tell, but it's not a comfortable position to be in.

I'm fairly sure I'm pretty well thought of and I do get on very well with the MD but I also understand the times we're moving towards and if I do get let go I know it will be a purely business decision, but that doesn't make the thought of it any better!

I think a lot of people are going to be in this exact situation - they or their bosses thought they were indispensable, and when push came to shove it was realised they could get by without them just fine.

We were forced to get rid of a few people because of money reasons (no furlough here). The reality is we've been able to cope better than I thought, and everyone won't be coming back even when money allows.

Indeed. It's a st situation to be in but there we are.

I'll deal with it if it happens, but it's not very comfortable. In some ways the waiting is the most difficult part.

Still, things could be worse so you just have be thankful for what you have.

Things are moving forward nicely for me just at the right time- jobs are popping up all over!

Frustrating that my 3rd interview one in cybersecurity still waiting, they called me last week that they like me just need to decide how to support me to get to know the industry better and with the way they think strategically as a well funded start up (circa £3.5m in the bank)

A second interview with another cybersecurity lot next week, after my interview last week with them that went awesomely and me and the hiring manager really got along!

Motability operations have also asked for a second interview with me (presentation task primarily). After telling me it could be two weeks for feedback, try 48 hours before they decided to move me forward in the process.

My original employer down this way I somehow have bagged an interview with tomorrow. I never burnt my bridges with them, but it feels odd, same team, different company name and much larger now (part of a JV these days).

And approached about three roles by some recruiters I know with one local to me, two in London so not bad at all!

Well done! With all the doom and gloom of massive job losses at least this is some good news. Hope you get an offer soon.

I’ve been furloughed since the end of March, and continue to be so.

I’ve had contact from my employer quite often and they’ve sent me a hamper with food/wine etc which was a nice gesture.

I’m on standby this month for part time work as and when it comes in. However I still have concerns about my job security because my boss himself doesn’t know if thing will improve.

Being furloughed has been bearable but I’d like to work in some capacity now, I’m a bit fed up with it, so I feel for my fellow furloughed people.

Pleased to report I’ve now been recalled to work but only on a flexible part time basis. Still, seems a positive sign.

Started back this week after being off since April 13th, slightly different role due to the company picking up a new contract but glad to be back to work. Feeling exhausted at night after being off for so long !

Looking like I will be back early August. It's been great being at home watching the littleun growing everyday but I am keen to get back out there.

Hoping that things go OK and that the business does indeed need my services.

My wife has been furloughed since lockdown. She works in retail & the shop where she works re-opened on 15 June, they called in about a third of the staff, they didn’t call on her.

She recently received communications from the firm. In essence they reckon they’ll only want half the staff back long term, also that from 1st August they want to reduce furlough payment to 90% of pay. Those that were recalled to work are on 115% of normal pay.

Thing is that some of the ‘recalled’ staff were on temporary contracts, usually 3 months and they started on 1st March. Surely that can’t count as being recalled at all, they must have had new contracts issued. Whereas my wife and many of her still furloughed colleagues have many years service. She is happy to work and would be 25% better off if called in.

The grapevine gossip suggests that those still furloughed are likely to be those made redundant, if so surely it can’t be right that temp staff are being retained whilst long service staff are laid off.

I have been on furlough since the 14th of April. Had a phone call from my manager yesterday asking me to join a call with him and HR at midday today. I suspect I know what is coming ! The good thing is that I am mortgage free with no debt and have substantial savings, the problem is that I am 58 with no particular skills.

I think a hell of a lot of companies are going to use this all as an excuse to get rid of people they either dont want or are paid too much.

It is effectively a clear out, much like what happened with Brexit when you had numerous companies using it as an excuse to lower the wage bill.

Obviously I am aware a lot of these firms have struggled, but I can see a whole lot of losing perm staff and keeping on temps, so they can make a quick buck then close. Or close stores completely.

Let;s face it, in most cases the retail sector has had it's day anyway, town centres are going to look very different in the next 20 years.

It is the Pubs, eateries I feel sorry for. They must be run on a tight string anyway

Cheers, bagged an interview with one of the London ones within 24 hours of my CV going over to them.

I literally have 2 confirmed and potentially the one above. Finishing my presentation for the 2nd interview with Motability is interesting though!
