Well after 5mths home and with no sign of returning, I made the decision to take a warehouse job for a large supermarket, will be good to back working and earning a wage.

Resigned from my current job yesterday, I feel that it would have ended soon in any case.

Thanks for the help / support and advice on the forum

Good luck with the new start. Would you not have got any redundancy pay out with the previous company?

No he isn't at retirement age (60). It wouldn't be a struggle for him (hence early retirement plan) as he has mortgage paid, owns another property and is pretty comfortable. However don't think he will offer for voluntary as he wouldn't get anything (3 weeks wages) and he wants to keep doing a couple of days from home so may feel this would jeopardise it. I really don't think hr has any say in who goes, It's coming from the senior management. Just so st waiting to find out.
Positive mental attitude, it sounds like the fact cards are your way. If it happens, it happens ; limit your wallowing time, and crack on with your new job of getting a new job. Fingers crossed for you.
Just an update. Today all the people that scored lowest in their selection pool were sent letters inviting them to a meeting. Luckily for me I was not sent a letter, my colleague above did instead.

Obviously I'm very happy and relieved but definitely feel a bit sad at the fact my colleague was happy to see me go if it meant him staying on another 6 months (he was still planning to retire in Feb). Once he has redundancy he will lose about 4 months wages all in but I could have lost my house in the mid term if I was unable to find another job. I've always got on well with this bloke and will be very sad to see him go, and if the roles were reversed i'm quite sure I would have offered to go. But it's a jungle out there, every man for himself it seems.

Well, to put a different spin on things, my place is having a clear out of those who are "too old and too expensive." All voluntary, through a severance scheme (because they wouldn't get it through employment legislation). The method of calculating the starting point for negotiation is shared and shows that some of those a couple of years off retirement who have been here since the year dot will be walking away with sums just breaking into six figures.

Nice, if you find yourself in that position.
I've recently had a friend "laid off" from a quasi civil service company (arms length but 100% government funded).

His offer to be paid off was 150% of his salary in the remaining two years he had before retirement anyway and his final salary pension is starting 2 years early at his "estimated" 2022 salary. After having spend five months on furloug on full pay gardening. He said the other week "You know I think this furlough has been great, made me think what i want to do in retirement". I can't say I am bitterly jealous (I am though as I left that company 15 years ago so would have probably been getting my "early retirement offer") but where does the logic lie; they could have made him sit at home for two years on full pay and it would have cost UK plc less money!

Only been with them just over a year so no, not even paying my notice period as they say being on furlough covers it, so finish on the 31st August

Thanks for the comments, it's 33 years service so i would like to get a much from them as possible as the "new role" will only be part time so a lot less income.
If they are not open to a compromise agreement, probably best to stand fast, and let this opportunity go. If the new company want you, they either wait, or give you a Golden Hello equivalent to the sum you would get from redundancy.
You don't necessarily need a settlement agreement but if your company is using an enhanced basis to calculate your redundancy payment eg a month per year of service, then your redundancy payment can be quite sizeable and you may well find it capped at £88,517 as that is the limit for unfair dismissal awards.
No Enhanced im afarid, so it will be capped at whatever 16ishk max.is. They have got back to me today and said i could start another job but they would consider that a termination which would not effect my redundancy payout but would the 12 weeks notice pay as they would stop paying it.
When you write 'stop paying it' do you mean they will not pay any notice or pay up to the point of leaving. This also perhaps indicates that you will either work the notice or be on garden leave rather than being paid in lieu.
They would stop paying at the point i would start the other role. which is part time only. It would take about 8 months in the new role just to cover the money lost from not having the "notice" money. So i need to wait and hope a role is still there after the notice period.

Update email tonight, the first contact since mid July! My furlough has been extended from the end of September to the end of October. I was expecting this email to be the ‘redundancy consultation’ one though, I’m a bit shocked it isn’t as there’s only a week left until the 45 day period deadline.

After six months of furlough I've got a meeting tomorrow. No indication of whether it's to discuss my return to work or redundancy.

At least it's coming to an end one way or another I suppose.

Wish me luck.

We have been told that we are probably going to be furloughed (or whatever its called this time) as of November for an indefinite period of time.

I was furloughed previously from the end of March till beginning of June, and have been back working since the 1st June till now.

I think it might be time for me to retrain and step away from engineering.

Contact Morson or Jam or Outsource. They are looking for Manufacturing Engineers at Barrow. 200.
I applied last October. Got an offer without interview, in June. and have just been sent the link to NSVS to apply for clearance. I know 3 others in the same boat and I think that 2 of them at least will decide to do something else before they get asked to start.

Cheers Pit Pony.
I'll look in to that now.

Up until a couple of weeks ago it did look like I was going to be put on a project up at Dounreay for 1 year at least, with the possibility of an extension to 2 years. But that has fallen through now.

I initially thought it was just a chat with my boss which I felt quite positive about, then I've subsequently learned a member of HR is going to be there which has set my spidey senses tingling.

At the best it's going to be something about returning to work after so long (six months), medium it'll be a role change or part time working (I'm amenable to both tbh to keep the bills being paid), at the worst it'll be the start of the redundancy process I guess.

Whatever, at least it will mean an end to this and I can move on one way or another.

That’s true, it’s good to see light at the end of the tunnel. Might be good time to update your CV, despite the situation I know there are jobs out there.

I’ve not been furloughed but last few months there had been few scares, so I understand how you feel.
Latest news is that I’ve got a new line manager and basically bumped one level down the chain but at least I’ve still got my job.
Things seem to change so quickly we can all only hope for the best.

Well it's not good news for me unfortunately.

There is a process to go through but I think, for the first time in my life at nearly 50, I'm going to be made redundant. They gave me all the standard lines they have to give but, reading between the lines, I think that's it.

So I'll have to continue the dance for a bit longer, take my payout then my job will become finding another job.

Can you not start looking now? How many years do you have?

Did they start the redundancy process?

You are not clear on what the meeting produced.

I have been told my role is at risk, a letter will go out tonight then there will be another meeting next week.

Reading between the lines I think that's it.

If you have been notified that you are at risk then that is the start of the redundancy process.
