When I was working the sites (agency trades labour) it was SOP if you were on a site that was st/drawing to a close etc and got offered another start you'd not quit so much as vanish to it and then have a couple of hours window to decide to stick or "phone in a sickie" and grab the old one back if new job seemed a compete shower.

I once left a job on the second day as it was not as described. Was carrying my toolbox back to the car and the owner of the business next door doing similar work asked if I was leaving and did I want work. Didn't even manage get to my car before starting the next contract. Worked for him for 6 months.

Went to Australia for a couple of years in 1980's, working holiday thing.
First job after landing in Sydney, cleaning office blocks.
Guy showing me the ropes, demonstrated cleaning a bog, with a sponge and bare hands.
I just left ......... 15 minutes max.

Ended up working on a sheep station 200 miles North of broken hill, loved it. Got given a motorbike, a dog and a gun on first day and also flew everyday, great times.
