Who's getting an inflation based pay rise?
Discussion
IT Contractor in the private sector here. I'm on a (very) long-term inside IR35 gig.
Just agreed 8% increase on my day rate for a 12 month extension which I would normally be elated with, but it's basically keeping track with inflation.
I'm not complaining. We are very far from extravagant other than a big mortgage thanks to me 'starting again' on the housing ladder in my late 30s, but are really having to watch our money despite earning a very attractive salary on paper.
I just do not know how those on average or below-average earnings are getting by at the moment.

Company-wide annual review in April linked to CPI. We all got 4.9%. I wonder what next April brings.
I negotiated a pay rise in March so I got the 4.9% on that. I was also promoted this month which came with an 14% raise so fortunate to be tracking above inflation.
So glad I was made redundant from the public sector in 2010. Genuinely think the government is destroying the public sector.

We’ve just been given an across the board rise of just under £2kpa, backdated to April. That means very roughly we’ve got an extra grand take home in last month’s pay packet and about an extra hundred quid a month take home from now on. A further pay review is, I think, due in April.
I work in a school and the rise is for non-teaching staff - MTAs, support staff, caretakers, etc. Doesn’t matter if you’re on £20k or £50k, everyone got the same.
Same here for me, whilst not great I'm not complaining and it will go some way to offset price rises and the like.I work in a school and the rise is for non-teaching staff - MTAs, support staff, caretakers, etc. Doesn’t matter if you’re on £20k or £50k, everyone got the same.

Our permanent staff received something similar (£2.5k across the board). It meant the lowest-paid got something close to 10% and the Board received 1%-2%.I work in a school and the rise is for non-teaching staff - MTAs, support staff, caretakers, etc. Doesn’t matter if you’re on £20k or £50k, everyone got the same.
For staff on Fixed term Contracts it was whatever you could negotiate.

NHS £50 a month pay rise April 2022. Pension contributions increased by £40 October 2022. £10 up.
Pension goes up again April 23 by £40 again.
Luckily every bill has gone up too, Infact gas and electric have trebled…
Not all NHS get the pension increase. Depends on your contract. The new gender for change contracts are different. The most the nhs pay into pension is matched if you put 6% in they put 6% which is decent compared to a lot of companies though. Pension goes up again April 23 by £40 again.

One of the big IT consultancies. Most years (for the ten I’ve been there) have been around 1%, at most 2%. Only time I’ve had something substantial was when I’ve been promoted.
We won’t know if we’re getting anything next year until the Spring as that’s when we always do pay reviews. Plenty of people have been pressuring for something decent (5-10%) with threats of going elsewhere, but the powers that be have already been making noises about recessions and tough times, presumably to set expectations of bugger all.
I expect to lose some good people.

I'm not sure as they are leaving it late to announce the rises this year. We normally get between 1 and 3% but there may be more pressure to give more with inflation so high. I'm due double bonus in March so I'm not too worried. Works out about 20% of my salary.
Those not on the bonus scheme are getting a flat £1000 bonus this Christmas which is nice to see.

Everyone got just shy of 2k backdated to April and an extra day leave next year. But they have frozen everyone in their pay bands for two years. There is some grumbling as there is talk of roles being deskilled as we are all on graded pay, so the lower grades ended up getting a bigger % rise in comparison. With the band freeze too it means the younger staff are not hanging around as they are not getting the normal progression.
