Due to now being redundant i'm being told that i need to go to the jobcentre and sign on.

Now i know i won't be eligible for anything - i've got savings and a partner who is working, both of which mean i won't get anythign?

However i'm told i need to sign on so that my national insurance contributions are correct??? (that or to massage the g'ment figures)

Anyone know?

Cheers

Sign for a variety of reasons, not least to keep your NI contributions going.

Its also nice to spend time with people you otherwise wouldn't.

Savings also may not make a massive difference to contributions based JSA.

even if you have savings you need to sign on for tax credits which was not told to me and so didnt bother, then had loads of hassle, as a bonus you get to join the unwashed and the chavs to pick up JSA.

If you have any Payment protected loans... you NEED to sign on to claim.

the People that work there are friendly but couldnt care less, i dont blame them due to the st they have to put up with, be prepared to enjoy the smell of booze/drugs and strong BO... it is advise to go first thing when they aint out of bed.

This coming from a person who had to go through it for a month or two...

can you sign on at any office or does it have to be the one nearest to where you live?

No - you can do the initial stuff on the phone. Takes about half an hour. Then you turn up at an appointed time every two weeks, wait 10 minutes to be seen, sign a bit of paper and fk off.

As far as I remember I used to sign on in your local Job Centre.

You're right of course, you shouldn't be too keen, it is bleak.

easy way is to ring up (I found the direct line to mine) , sort out an appointment, take your P45 and anything to prove why you left the job (compromise aggreement), take ID in, they will do the rest.

Get given a paper booklet, then go in once every 2 weeks.

P.S. If you are on a BT landline then it dont cost you

As you're on the dole, I assume you are posting this down the pub!! wink

Borrow someone's landline - it's only an 800 number...or use a payphone!!

I think it's 16k and up you get nowt, but anything over 6k affects the amount you get.

And yeah you have a designated centre depending on your home postcode.

ETA - it's worth doing for NI reasons and, as mentioned Council Tax relief. You might also qualify for housing benefit too.

I completed the main crux of it online, they then followed up with a 15/20 minute phone call asking all the same questions.

First time I went in there was a 10 minute appointment and some bit and pieces to sign. Then you go back every 2 weeks at a set time for around 5 minutes so they can see what you've done to attempt to get a job (they give you a diary to fill out).

£128 every 2 weeks.

Last time I went, it was all very civilised with people reading broadsheets before seeing the advisors and no sign of the unwashed.

HAS TO BE the one you go and join initially... in my case Stockwell (im a lazy fker and couldnt be doing with the walk), you cant go anywhere else and if you cant go you need to prove why in loads of evidence and woah betide if you go away for a week... you will then need a note from god to get away from that and need to tell them when and where you go.

AFAIK it's just related to whatever amount you have at the time of applying, if you follow me.
