Its as I remember it.

The working status of the partner is what scuppers most people with Income Based JSA.
partner? what partner?

Yup - been there, signed on, done it!

Mind you, it cost me a tenner every time I went to the Job Centre - had to get one of the dolers to mind the Porsche while i signed on! biggrin

rofl I could get my bus fare reimbursed for my visits. Maybe you could get a receipt wink

Well, maybe it's different up here north of the border but I was explicitly told that even contributions based JSA was affected by savings. I'm more of the opinion that my local centre is staffed by halfwits, though.

ETA - not that it made a blind bit of difference to me, though, having savings totalling 0 pennies biggrin

40 minutes ago i got through to them.

Spent all this time answering some random questions.

I now have an appointment to go and see the great unwashed on Friday.

I need to take...... (and this is after a 40 minute telephone chat)

Mortgage details and certificate
Ground rent details
Letter of redundancy from work
passport
bank statement
premium bond certificates
GF's work details

Where as if you were DSS/Scum, you would need to turn up semi sober and they then open the till drawers and couldnt be nicer to you... be on the the ex hard working members of society then you have to fking well work at it to get something you are owed.

Tho I only needed:

Letter of redundancy from work
passport
P45
Compromise agreement

Dont forget that when on dole you can go on any course you want as long as you get it oked and each course can be upto £1500 each... someone might as well use it rather than the local scum. So use it to brush up on your skills

Well considering I was looking at JAVA, basic to advanced and Exchange traded dervs, FSA regs amongst others, I would say a no, its not the standard ones smile

Be aware that some places might not of heard of it as it was still very new a month ago when I was looking, but then I got a job frown

but its essentially, dont take the piss, prove they dont already do a course like it, it will then go to the head of JC+, they will review and say yes or no.

Government has pledged £500million into the scheme

Don't worry about the length of them either. As long as you start while on JSA, you're golden.

Ignore that. Thats ILA Scotland I was dealing with. Might be different down there.

My experience:

filled out form online - less than 30 minutes
they phoned me back the next day

initial meeting at job shop - less than 30 minutes

now sign on every 2 weeks wich takes less than 20 minutes a time including the wait.

I have over 16k savings and my partner works, so statutory £65 a week for me, but my stamp gets paid which is the maion thing.

Couldn't be an easier system if it tried, although I'm a bit pissed that if I don't get a job within 6 months my entitlement ceases. When I think of the money I have paid in over the last 10+ years that boils my piss.

Very helpful and friendly staff and not judgmental at all, however, treat them like st and you will be walking out the door with no money - the way it should be. Maybe I just live in a (half) decent area?

And yeah you have a designated centre depending on your home postcode.
You can choose any centre you like, though if it isn't your local one then I believe they will only pay you by BACS rather than giro.

That was the case a good few (about 10) years ago as I signed on in Cambridge rather than Huntingdon (my local) due to a lower % of smack addicts.

After six months doesn't it drop down to Income support, i.e based on current savings and income,

I work in Adult Education. Anyone on JSA can get "fee remission" on courses that lead to a Nationally Recognised Qualification - means you pay nothing for the course so long as you are on JSA when you enrol for the course. You can complete the course even if you get a job.

If you were made redundant over six months ago, there is a new scheme offered through FE colleges only, where you can undertake a variety of courses subject to the approval of your JobcentrePlus office. Some JCP's may not have heard of it yet, but there is a regional co-ordinator covering their Office who will be able to put them straight. Ask for the "Response to Redundancy" person.

Don't they just.

Was that your phone interview or your one at the jobcentre?

The phone one has some of the most bizzarre questions ever "are you serving a jail term?"

just the phone one

to be fair, the lady on the phone was very helpful and suggested a number of things that I could claim for

she only got arsey when I declined the job centre interviews for tomorrow and thursday

she asked me why, I did deliberate telling her I was going on the smash in Le Mans ufor the rest of the week but said I've got interviews lined up and agencies to see which meant I couldn't make them
