just the phone one
to be fair, the lady on the phone was very helpful and suggested a number of things that I could claim for
she only got arsey when I declined the job centre interviews for tomorrow and thursday
she asked me why, I did deliberate telling her I was going on the smash in Le Mans ufor the rest of the week but said I've got interviews lined up and agencies to see which meant I couldn't make them
Always be honest - they'll have their agents following you now!to be fair, the lady on the phone was very helpful and suggested a number of things that I could claim for

The one at the job centre isn't too bad, as long as you can put up with the other "claiments", and the people who see you are genuinly surprised when you turn up prepared with the things they asked you to bring.

I know exactly what you mean, i'm not exactly in a specialised industry but the poor woman couldn't find a catagory to put a transport planner or supply chain analyst into.
she also mentioned "well there's probably no point in looking on our website for that type of job"
oh well.
Same here, although I never really had any intention of looking on their website.she also mentioned "well there's probably no point in looking on our website for that type of job"

When i went to my interview i was told i may also be eligible for council tax benefit - although this would depend on savings / partners income etc.
I've got the form to fill in - its 30 pages long.
I'm on page two and i've already had classics such as
Q1: Do you have a partner who lives with you - Yes or No.
Q5(ON THE SAME PAGE): Please provide yours and your partners address. - Do not provide your partners address if it is the same as yours.
WTF????
Oh and i need to provide the following - photocopied and sent off:
1:Evidence of ID: Passport or NI card.
2: Evidence of my address - recent bill
3: Evidence of NI number
4: 3 months of evidence for
*All bank accounts (3 of)
*Premium bond certificates
*ISAs
*Stocks and shares
5: Evidence of earnings - for both me and my partner - the last FIVE payslips
Baring in mind that i have savings, and premium bonds and the GF has shares, the GF is workingm is it really worth me going to all this trouble??
Am i likely to qualify for council tax relief? The people at the job centre won't tell me - will only say i have to apply and see what they say.
Does anyone know the limits etc?
Cheers
Dan

scratched on this morning - such fun!
whilst I was waiting to be called up I sat next to a bloke who at 9.30 am managed to sink two cans of special brew in 15 mins
fairly quiet though as there were no fights today

I'm a Monday person - 16.20 - which is a little late really - most of the regualrs are pissed by then and you can tell the staff have just about had enough.
But it means i wander in sign my sheet and wander out again - no questions asked, no checks on what i'm doing or anything.
Although next Tuesday i've been instructed to attend a back to work meeting - 12-14 jobseekers given a presentation on what courses and schemes are available to us.
To say i'm not looking forward to it is a massive understatement - anyone been to one of these are they as bad as i'm expecting?

Today i have had my "back to work" group session.
Everyone has to go to one if out of work for between 6 - 9 weeks.
Christ its painful.
I think 9 or 10 people turned up out of 15, three of them were late, this may have been due to the fact that on half the letters, the wrong location was given for the meeting, or it may have been down to their sheer laziness.
Anyway, it wastes an hour of your life, and tells you very little that you don't already know.
Although I was woken from my slumber at one point when the woman running it asked if everyone had a CV, i assumed this was rhetorical until two people admitted that no they didn't have a CV.
It cost me £3 to park the car as well. AND i can't claim that back.

is it 'compulsory or we'll stop your benefits' compulsory?
got three interviews lined up next week, two are seconds and if I can avoid going there at any cost I will do
it sucks the life out of me
Yup compulsory - the letter says ""To assist you in your search for work I am directing to take the following action: yada yada yada - failure to comply with this direction you could lose your benefits etc. got three interviews lined up next week, two are seconds and if I can avoid going there at any cost I will do

I avoided my first invite, told them i'd got an interview which they took at face value.
Whilst there you get a form to fill in "The 3 step plan" -
You have to fill it in for your next JS interview.
Step 1: Jobs that i can do:
Step 2: Contacts eg: People I know who can help me
Step 3: Use different approaches eg: Making Contact with employers
I sometimes wonder how some people remember to breath.

in that case I'll look forward to it
I stupidly took them up to speak to a 'preferred specialist' agencies and attended and interview with them
the biggest load of bks I've ever wasted 3 hours of my time on
feedback time

Apparently they are areas our local jobcentre has specialist recruiters in.
TBH fk all
it's an agency within the construction industry - the JC have teamed up with various agencies over the country due to the amount of prefessionals out of work, they don;t have the knowledge to deal with us
got a questionaire to fill in, some poncy web programme, told to register with Linked In and nothing after that despite various calls and mails
I'm more fked off that those s are getting paid for that with my/our fking money rather than wasting my time - it's not as if I've got anything better to do with it
I'm going to relish the meeting

btw - any joy your end?
An interview last week, but won't find anything further until next week, a telephone interview that i'm waiting to here back from, and a couple of applications that have just hit closing date. I'm not desperate enough to start sending applications left right and centre - yet - so am applying for jobs that i want at the moment.
Luckily the redundancy package was a good one.
