Linkedin.com ? Is it a Job Hunting Dead end or
Discussion

Someone here suggested I join up and I did.
After a little searching I find that someone I used to work with has some very influential contacts.
Is this a dead end or should I contact some of them with my CV speculatively ?
Anyone got positive experience ?

Definitely go on LinkedIn.
As soon as I did I got far more relevant approaches from headhunters. One of them led to my current job.
Regarding getting in touch with your contacts' contacts, I haven't done this and I think you'd need to think pretty carefully how you're going to approach it - if you get your contact to introduce you then what are you going to say to them? Why would it be of interest to them rather than a waste of their time?

Absolutely go on Pistonheads, and use it for what it is intended - networking.
It's a great place to network, meet new people, get in touch with old colleagues, and a really good way of making a warm approach to someone you want to work for.
My day rate is not that high, do you need a lean practitioner? Hands on, Fingers dirty approach to problem solving. It's a great place to network, meet new people, get in touch with old colleagues, and a really good way of making a warm approach to someone you want to work for.

Well done! Wish it had been that useful for me - and I even run a group on there!
Having said that, it is the best online networking device I know of. It's quite strict in its operability which keeps the life-coaching, pot-plant sellers away
Nothings in the bag yet, but I'm re inventing myself as Ascona Attitude. (There will be more posts on setting up a limited company and Liability Insurance I have no doubt)Having said that, it is the best online networking device I know of. Been thinking of what direction I want my career to take off. As soon as I did I got far more relevant approaches from headhunters. One of them led to my current job.

Okay My last post on Pistonheads was along time ago : http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
I've been busy. (Mainly with VAT, NIC and PAYE, and Corporation Tax calculations)
And Happy.
