What are the consequences? Anyone told their employer to "do one" and faced the wrath of HR?!

IIRC by some euro law, the notice period on an employment contract isnt legally binding, you only have to give 24hours notice. As for just walking out, its unlikely you would get any come back.

If you like having "dismissed for gross misconduct" as a reference, go for it wink

Hmmm. Not very professional I know. Just very annoying that my pleas have been ignored, and I'm sat here with little, if anything to do.

It's complicated!
I've resigned after being here only a month or so. Long story but moving abroad. I asked to shorten my notice period, but it has fallen on deaf ears. Wouldn't mind but I have nothing of importance to do.

Do you have a contract yet? Are you still in a probation period?

Ypu say you're moving abroad, are you coming back & will you be working in the same industry as your current job? if the answer is yes then negotiate a shorter notice period.

If the answer is no then just give the firm the notice period you want to work & move on, in reality if you've only been worling for the firm for a month I'm sure they wont be that bothered, unless due to training they've invested a lot of money in you over your first month.
