Hi
I'm 3 weeks into a new job and it isn't for me. In a nutshell, I thought i could carry on with my education and work full time but i can't, i'm already falling behind in my studies. It's an ok place to work but it's not what i ultimately want to do whereas what im going to college to study is. There's no option to work part time.

I'm on a 3 month probation with a weeks notice required either way. If i quit i will not be able to receive the small amount of discretionary grant i awarded. However if they dismiss me i am entitled to it. I've checked this out and it's correct.

So they must give me the push. I wont do anything bad, but how do i get them to give me the push lol? I'm looking for alternative p/t work, maybe if i tell them this and signal my intention of leaving (but not in writing or anything) they will take the initiative.

Any helpful advice appreciated. Please, im not up for debating ethics, i just want advice on how to leave to suit me best.

You need to speak with your boss and explain exactly what you have just put in your post.

The above 2 answers are a good starting point.

Remember you may want a reference from them in the future.

So don't do anything rash to get yourself "pushed" - Have a discussion with them, could they reduce your hours? Tell them you are struggling and try to offer a solution.
