Well good on you for continuing to employ a proven liar. Many wouldn't have.

Sorry, but I would of sacked him in the first week!
Let me guess. Lower level management in a large company who wants to make a name for himself as a hard bd in business?

Had a manager like you. Massive staff turn over and poor profitability. She was got rid of, I was promoted to that position, took a more lenient approach and actually listened to staff and helped them out and you know what? We are making twice as much per month, because my staff now don't live in fear and come to me with problems and we sort them out.

If I had someone like you working for me, you'd be gotten rid of. Not the other bloke.

Tyresmoke. Well done. Virtual pint heading your way.

The guy may be the best employee at doing the job, ok he has had time off sick with a mental health issue. If he works harder than other when he is fine and only has problems occasionally then keeping him on is an advantage, also keeping him on and reacting well means he may well come forward and request time off if he feels it coming on again.

I'll admit to cursing him quite a few times, as this all happened around our busiest time - Christmas and New Year. But we managed, and nobody died!!
I am willing to bet that you don't have a high staff turnover.

The bottom line IME is that if a manager is good to the employees they get on with the job at hand and they do their best. Happy employees are good employees and productive, they might even spend extra hours at work without claiming for it. People who are p***ed off with their boss don't do much work if they can avoid it, take sick days to go shopping, and spend half their time thinking about getting another job and/or interviewing for another job, and come in and walk out the exact minute they are contracted to.

Spot on. I cleared all the deadwood out when I bought the company, It took a while but I now have employees who are of my mindset.
