Not happy at all.

I'm a purchasing manager and have been at my current place for the last 17 years. Everything has been self taught but its run by an old dinosaur and things will never change. Good things is its a 10 minutes commute and i get to finish on time most nights.

The thing is if i get out do i train and get my qualifications in CIPS and carry on in a similar role? if that is in fact what i want to do.

The thing is i wont know unless i managed to get in a role in another company and without qualifications i'll never know. On the other hand i could end up throwing away a few grand if i got in a new place and didnlt like it.

But.... i realise i have only myself to blame, your a long time dead and if you dont like a job then go out and find something that you do like.

Thing is i honestly dont know if a similar role at a better company would be right up my street.

Easier said than done though eh.

I work for an wholly owned subsidiary of an Italian group offering sales & support of a technical product.I manage a small office for them and offer sales support when needed but I am bored.I have been with this company for 8yrs now and I like the people I work with & the hours are ok although exactly the same everyday as is the job more or less.

Sometimes I think I need to breakaway but I have the responsibility of being the main earner and then I think just do the job and try to enjoy yourself outside of the job but its hard when the job takes up such a huge chunk of your week.

Too true, its easy to say that and every time i have a bad day i cry out for change but as said its a short commute, and we all get on really well at work as we have practically grown up together. (i'm the baby at 17 years at the firm) everyone else is in their late 40's and have been there since 17/18 years old.

Hard to break away when you all have a bond like that.

Yes, it's ok. Ts&Cs are good as is the salary and in six months time the company will have paid for me to do two degree courses. Not only do these qualifications enable me to advance my carrer further within the company, they also enable me to look elsewhere in the future.

I am also having a seven year itch for many reasons.

I wouldn't jump ship unless the grass really was greener, but I am in the process of finishing a degree I started nearly 10 years ago with the intention of moving into a totally different field.
