OK, I will give it a go. Basically it does saw how many hours I have to work...Very clever.

So, I will see what this year brings and if no pay rise or contract review, I will ask and see what can happen.

Get what you're entitled to, but don't pee off your boss; sounds like you enjoy your job and to be honest it sounds like the kind of job I wish I was doing at your age - Don't blow it =]

Not sure if this would work but could you keep a record of the hours worked and when you do decide to leave and are happily in a new job sue him for the difference between these and the minimum wage and what he's paid you.

You're missing out on £600 a year by not demanding (your legal right) minimum wage. When you're only earning £8700 a year that 600 is a significant amount. Ask for an increase to £4.92, but do it calmly and politely. If they refuse and/or sack you, you can have some fun (the Daily Mail would love a story about an ex-celebrity in trouble with the law).

From the DirectGov web site:
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/employment/employees/t...

"You are entitled to the National Minimum Wage even if you sign a contract agreeing to be paid at a lower rate. This is regardless of whether you sign of your own free will or because your employer persuades or makes you. The contract will have no legal effect and you must still be paid the proper rate."

You are being diddled as it's £4.92 for 18-20 year olds. Try calling the Pay and Work Rights Helpline if you don't believe me.
