Anybody else receive a knock back email this week for the WT install tech position?

Gutted is an understatement, just going to have to dust myself off and try, try again !

Hey, Sorry to here that.

I recently viewed their careers section, They are looking for trainee blade repair workers. Touching up scratchers, general maintenance of the blades I applyed for it. Not sure if you need any experience in painting but looks a pretty simple job. Securing any job with seimens would be brill!..I would do any job smile

"Key experience required is in industrial preparation and painting, fiberglass repair and use of epoxy resins. Keys tasks involve any preparation and repair to the Blades, repairing scratches and marks on towers, nacelles and hubs and painting touch-ups"

Sorry to be a pain but the above would suggest you need a fair bit of knowledge experience to be considered.

Blade tech is very specialised, a lot tougher than it sounds aswell hanging up there at 70 metres paintingbiggrin

Good luck, I have had no luck with Siemens as yet either!

Yeah I just read the blade repair tech description - I 'have' had a bit of epoxy resin and fibreglass experience etc but nowhere near enough to apply for a position of this nature.

I'm just guessing that a fair few guys who have worked the WT's before are applying - didn't vestas lay a few off a short while ago?

The only bummer is I applied a few months ago, and didn't apply for any of service tech positions in the meantime frown

Does anybody have an idea of what each of the Siemens technician competencies actually involve / require?

i.e what is a Siemens Level 3 tech? what have they done to get this title? Is it hours on site doing service etc

Tried to find a descriptor for each level but failed so farfrown

Gentleman, I've finally managed to respond to everyone who has sent me PMs. Apologies for the delay, I've been suffocating under the weight of applications received for a large rigging project so it's taken me a while to get round to it.

If I've missed any, feel free to re-send.

Cheers.

Is it to self fund the courses? I'd be interested in that as one or two of my lads might be prepared to go for it.

Folks I've had a few enquiries so will just make the details public, not sure why I bothered with PM's as it's no secret.

All details for the course content for Siemens Level 2&3 are here - http://maersktraining.com/faculties/wind - go down to bottom right selection box and choose level 2 or 3.

It costs £1725 for both. (thats just the courses, you'd have flight and accommodation on top)

I was very surprised at the course content as its very basic stuff mostly. I'm trying to find out if anybody in the UK is going to deliver this content any time soon, I'll post up if I get a positive answer.

This might be something we'd look to do as a JV. I'll make some enquiries too.

Joint venture smile

We've probably got dozens of people who'd stump up to self fund this so would be quite well positioned to sell the training and let someone else provide it.

ah ha, makes sense.

I'd be well up for it too. I can't really see why Maersk couldn't deliver the content in the UK if they got a decent sized group over here. Just fly the guys and the content over for a bit i'd imagine.

Sounds like you are better placed to get some answers than myself, good luck!

p.s. were you as shocked as me at the simplicity of the content? especially level 2?

Not really mate, we've been putting guys through these courses for a while now, albeit once they're placed with clients so we're pretty au fait with what's included. You're right though, they are relatively basic stuff.

PS, we're about to get a number of techy jobs coming up for siemens level 3 guys on the London Array if anyone wants to put their name forward. Offshore turbine experience (as per usual) is a must.

I'm seriously considering sticking a turbine up at the local beach, about 10 metres from the shore. Nothing too big. Then I'll have some offshore turbine experiencelaugh
