Hi Trev, do EDF do all their maintenance in house?
Hi windmanNot all, yet, but heading that way. As older projects come out of warranty, we are establishing in-house teams to continue the service and maintenance. For new projects we will be involved from day one. This is probably the path most utilities will follow in time.

How are you getting on windman - IIRC its just over 12 months that you got onboard, hows your 1st year treating you?
Really well, great industry to be in just now, everybody looking at O&M and expanding. Had a few overseas trips / training courses, getting decent money and genuinely enjoy the being out & about nature of the industry. Once offshore is fully up and established it's going to be good too, just need to get them built up off both Scottish coasts!

Yes, looks that way anyway. OEM's going to have to reduce costs or lose O&M contracts post warranty. It is amazing though at the moment that all operators seem to be doing a bit of this, bit of that, everybody waiting to settle on a final O&M model for the bigger machines. Good times at the moment though, hope it continues.
They already do technically sell energy... They are shareholders / investors / part owners of various wind farms across the world. Including several in the UK. In some cases with substantial stakes.
It shows a commitment and trust in the industry / market.

Actually, any turbine techs (or anyone else who steps foot on them) able to help me out with a few pics from inside the turbines for a college project I will be doing?
Ive chosen to do my project on wind turbines, from the early windmill harnessing wind power to todays modern beasts, would love a couple of pics from inside the nacelle of a couple of geared units and DD units, any further tech info much appreciated regards to outputs, grid connections etc etc to jazz my presentation up
Thanks in advance

As above, against company policy at to take pics etc. There are quite a few videos on Siemens' youtube channel which give you a good look around. I think they are called "Behind the scenes,Siemens offshore" or similar.Ive chosen to do my project on wind turbines, from the early windmill harnessing wind power to todays modern beasts, would love a couple of pics from inside the nacelle of a couple of geared units and DD units, any further tech info much appreciated regards to outputs, grid connections etc etc to jazz my presentation up

This link is brilliant Capita , take some screen shots http://www.siemens.com/innovation/pool/features/si... (use bottom right arrows to move from onshore to offshore to factory etc)
just google image 'inside wind turbine' aswell and there's plenty there.

Yeah no worries, completely understand - I was just after a couple of snaps to show the approximate rotor size in the DD's etc compared to the geared numbers etc, hopefully nothing too technical in it but its not a problem.
That link (from what ive seen) is great, i'll defo put it to good use!

Cheers schuey - this time last year I think i'd watched every siemens wind turbine related vid going on youtube!hello fellas, im an onshore wind technician looking to get into offshore, preferably around the barrow area, walney. or Irish sea. I am looking to gain experience before it becomes large in Scotland (if this happens) I have an hnc electrical engineering, over two years commissioning, fault finding and servicing 2mw and 3 mw machines, confident in plc fault finding and control systems. I have worked on abb converters and also SEG converters as well as MOOG pitch systems.I am certified to work on these systems and have passed the courses.
I was wondering how best to get my name in the running so to speak, Has anyone worked for DONG or know what the interview entails, any contact numbers/info would be greatly appreciated. Also does any one know when offshore in Scotland will commence if ever!!!
My previous employment was Submarines/telecoms.12 years
cheers fellas,

Few links, I reckon late 2014 before any real offshore action in Scotland if not into 2015. A lot of wait and see at the moment, lesson learning from constructed projects.I was wondering how best to get my name in the running so to speak, Has anyone worked for DONG or know what the interview entails, any contact numbers/info would be greatly appreciated. There'll be massive recruitment for offshore techs in Scotland in a few years, gona be a battle to stop a haemorrhage of onshore techs going offshore.

- "sciolist"... Noun, archaic. "a person who pretends to be knowledgeable and well informed".
The chap that hurt himself, despite certain protestations from his company management, no longer, apparently, works for the said company.
No reason available to date, but plastering your injuries across the magazines may, and I say may, have breached some company guidelines.
