There's not really a point to this post, just to say how damn lucky I feel at the moment!!!!

I was put at risk of redundancy 3 weeks ago with a view to going mid-late April. Started looking around the market and applied for a couple of jobs. I applied for a role that is broadly identical to my current job (just with a few more team members), first interview last Thursday, second yesterday morning and had a call last night from the CFO offering me the role - AT 20% MORE MONEY THAN I ASKED FOR!!

SO thats more money, closer to home, better industry to be in, nicer people, clearer role spec, better development options and slighty more responsiblity - AND THEY ARE PAYING ME?!?!?!

Life is good, that is all!!

Make sure you collect your pay off from your old employer as well.

Nice!

Working on that one!! Don't think it's going to happen, I'm only at risk at the moment and haven't been given forml notice of redundancy, but my current 'argument' (I you can call it that) is that the only reason I was looking for an external role was because of redundancy....

Time will tell!!!

You're a valuable way for them to shed a person with no stress.

Tell them you're happy to compromise out for a reasonable tax free chunk. You could aim for say three months tax free or something and agree to waive all your rights to bring a claim.

Make sure you can start at the new place straight away.

Damn right!!! It does actually mean that I can change cars now you mention it! We've got a Bora and an M3 at the moment and neither are going to move now. I drive 100 odd miles a day as it is and the new one is only about 8 miles, so I'm getting a little bike to scoot through the traffic in the morning.

I could sell both and getting something a bit tasty. Just need to convince the wife.......

So you asked for a figure and they offered 20% more than that?

I just don't get that!

Kind of, they asked me what I was looking for, so I told them what I was on at the moment and that I spend about £8k a year just getting to work, so anything above £X would be enough for me, and they offered £X plus 20%!!

I'm just that good.......

Good call!

Certainly worth asking this of your current employer before taking the resignation route.
