1M - A few questions?

It's very interesting to re visit this thread after 5 years and look at the market for 1M's.
Now we can only dream about a 2000 mile car costing £40,000. In todays market the asking price would be north of £60,000 for a similar mileage car.
Many people held off buying in the hopes that prices would fall as the cars got a few years older, but as can be seen in the classifieds, that never happened.
I expected the prices of the 1M to soften when the M2 came out, but that has not happened either.
I think the introduction of the M2 in 2016 has actually pushed up prices of the 1M , most motoring journalists agree that the M2 is not as good as the 1M.
Personally my view is that there will always be a strong demand for the 1M, probably the reason why the 1M has remained stubbornly expensive in every market worldwide.
I wonder what the price of a 1M will be if we revisit this thread in 2022. My guess is that in the medium to long term, prices will continue to rise.[/footnote]
Some may have hoped, but plenty were adamant their prices would tank, many trotting out the classic "it's just an E82 Coupe with fat arches".Now we can only dream about a 2000 mile car costing £40,000. In todays market the asking price would be north of £60,000 for a similar mileage car.

Sure the prices softened (I bought my second stunning AW example for £36k in 2012/13) but a quick look at prices shows the PH doom mongers were wrong (quelle surprise....)
Place your bets on 2M future prices please gentlemen

The M2 is not limited production and just doesn't seem as special as the 1M.Sure the prices softened (I bought my second stunning AW example for £36k in 2012/13) but a quick look at prices shows the PH doom mongers were wrong (quelle surprise....)

My prediction is that the M2 will follow the same depreciation as the standard E46 M3. It will drop in price for many years and hit a low point. Then once out of production, the best examples will slowly start to appreciate in about 10 years.

Agree, M2 not 'special' enough. All in my opinion, of course. My prediction is that the M2 will follow the same depreciation as the standard E46 M3. I'm amazed by the prices of these at 5 years old!
They are just a 1 series with an N54 engine with a lighter flywheel and M3 Diff and M3 suspension... but guess you could say similar of an M2 ..
Makes my 335i looks like a bargain, although I know full well handling is no where near the 1M.
Anyone considering one of these should fit oil catch cans straight away. The N54 suffers terribly with Oil blow by on the intake valves. Rob Beck now has an external PCV solution with an oil catch can for the Vacuum side of things now which almost eliminates crank case ventilation oils from being sucked into the valves under idle and non boost conditions.

I fitted a OCC to my 1M, 1 dessert spoon of oil in two years, was it worth it? Probably not! They are just a 1 series with an N54 engine with a lighter flywheel and M3 Diff and M3 suspension... but guess you could say similar of an M2 ..

OK, but presumably your OCC was on the boost side of the engine e.g. BMS catch can.. my link was for vacuum loading conditions where the engine operates most of the time normally drawing crank case oil vapours into the inlet valves via the cylinder head. The kit externalises the check valve to allow oil to collected in a second catch can.
