Well, that was an epic day!

Write this from the bath (sorry about the image..) after about 320 miles of driving.

- 45 in the megane. Was nearly choked up saying goodbye - fantastic car, although confess didn't even give it a second glance when pulling out of BMW guildford!

- 280 in the 1M. Lots of driving up and down the M4 dealing with various family disasters, not my ideal way to get to know a new car but at least i know you can do long distances at relative comfort, with only the exhaust boom that can get a little tiring. Managed to get the tail slithering about within 2 mins of ownership on a very greasy road which really calmed me down for the rest of the day (recent years had to deal with FWD wheelspin only..), but the a late night drive home from a village 10 miles or so away i really got to push a little and find out more about the car. Not enough though - need a session at castle combe soon to find out some more!

- and then 20 miles in a 458 spyder as a passenger. 21:30, roof down. Note to self and others: if you've broken the bank and put yourself at considering financial peril spending 37k on a used car, don't then visit a mate who has spend 225k on a new one....puts things in perspective! I've been in fast cars before but i now have a new concept of "fast".

Tomorrow depending on a few things coming right its off to Rye House for a club100 kart race - another 160 miles! Thoughts as they stand so far:

- my god i do appreciate that torque! You appreciate it so much on the motorway, makes life so much less stressful

- absolutely perfect driving position

- traction control light seems to flash way more than i'd expect, sometimes in third gear when i cant detect a reduction in power

- love everything aput how it feels on a B road, but dont feel i've expored even a fraction of the fun available so far, so not going to try and describe any more detail than that, for now.

- it feels quicker than 335bhp

- there is only one flaw i can see: no stereo mute on the steering wheel

That's it, back to the bubbles...

Glad you're enjoying it, they're epic little cars.

Seriously ? Probably the most uncomfortable driving position I've experienced in a car to date. I'm 5'11 and 13 stone. Found it pretty much impossible to get comfortable in.

That's probably something to do with the low down torque hehe
A set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports to replace the standard fit PS2's should help. I'm running my existing PS2's to the canvas as I'm due to fit a set of coilovers and I want to do a back to back comparison with the old PS2's before fitting Super Sports.

Most show 350-355bhp on the RR, but that feeling will be the torque hehe

Somebody put the bloody exhaust-boom-at-75-mph thing in this thread... Spent from swindon to newport an iphone decibel app and cruise control trying to work out the sweet spot!

After newport i concluded i should just stop being a tt smile

Great stance on the E92 rear axle and CSL alloys smile

Yep, definitely. Am 6'2" and 14 stone - angle of legs and elbows are almost perfect, i've got a pretty decent simulator up in the man room and watched more than a few youtubes on how to set driving position correctly, and its nailed in this thing smile

we should organise that route you know or at least do some local roads if you fancy hooking up. Starting to sound like an e92 owner making advances....

Im 6ft 4 and find the driving position in my 1M spot on also and the seats very comfortable,i didn't go for the electric ones as you sit a little lower down without.

I must confess that over the wet/icy/cold winter that's lasted 6 months my 1M proved to be a very twitchy beast...must be all that torque wink... but over the last couple of warmer weeks its like a new car all over again, really been able to exploit it more fully,i had almost forgotten how good it was. I have racked up 17,000 miles from new now and find it a far better everyday car than my CSL was and tbh the only thing I would consider changing it for would be another GT3.

Mine too is BSM which has a lovely degree of subtle aggression to it,perfect for an everyday driver, although that being said I have never had a car that draws so much attention,i almost get tired of people asking me if its a 1M etc etc.Its the sort of car people like without thinking your a flash git, perfect.

I have had zero issues so far.I toyed with the idea of remapping/intercooler/exhaust ie Evolve but honestly I don't think it really needs it...just yet. The ride is a little uncompromising but I fear it would lose its edge if it were softened, not in terms of performance where it would definitely swallow B roads a lot faster if softened but in its character.I think thats why I found the M135I I test drove a little dull, too soft for my liking, made it feel a little too easy by comparison. There is very little between the 2 in terms of performance and stats but a whole country mile in character and attitude.

And that's what I love about my 1M,its such a well rounded package when you factor in looks/performance/rarity and deprecitation or the lack of so far has been an added bonus.

'Bout sums it up perfectly. I'm hoping to address the B road deficiency in the next couple of weeks, will it lose its "edge" ? possibly, but I'm sure that "edge" can be restored by a visit to Evolve . . . .

Views on the driving position seem to fall into two distinct camps, those that think it's too high, and thus it feels like your sitting on the seat rather than in it. And those that find it spot on ! I fit into the former, and have addressed the issue by making it impossible for anyone to get in the back and unless they're the same size as me, they won't fit in the front seats either biggrin

By 'edge' I mean not its performance capabilities as im sure softening or adjusting a little would definitely make it faster on bumpy bouncy british roads, but I kind of like the ways its a tad firm,it makes it feel a bit naughty, adding to the impression that its something a little more hardcore,i like its nervousness.

It will be interesting to see your findings after you have had the work done. The route your taking ie suspension first is the one I would go down closely followed by a trip to Evolve.

Keeps us posted smile
