So hard to value something like that too... there is little/no demand for this inbetweener type car now. It's hard to see how you restore it back to an original road car without incurring large expense and given what's done to it if you wanted to build a proper racecar out of it you probably end up cutting out the existing cage etc... imho.

Wonder who did the engine refresh?

Looks clean, but very odd from that angle.

This M3 appeared yesterday and is already on £28k+. Seller is the mysterious bidder who fell silent after twice promising to send a deposit.

All looks a bit shiny underneath to be original.
Same car.

Didn't show up to the auction.

ETA

Just wondered if anyone has seen any proof of the 2.5 conversion?
£29 000 with 2 hours to go. Evidently reserve has been lowered although to what I don't know?

I think the owner is finding out the market is a small one for a expensive old and dedicated track car with not a lot of power. It's nicely done, but suspect it was converted when M3 values where around £6K for a cheap car to convert.

It needs a fair bit of work and some of those repairs look a bit suspect. I'd also want some proof of the engine power being quoted, or at least some evidence that it really has a 2.5 crank.

As said, probably converted when M3's were very cheap and not to worried about some of the welding repairs . You kinda really have to want an E30 M3 track car , say over spending half what this guy wants and buying an E46 M3 and sticking a cage in. Most people will think the M3 a bit underpowered today and be tempted for much more powerful cars for a lot less money to risk at the track.

I can't remember which way around it is, but I think a 2.5 crank uses a nut on the end securing the pulley/balancer where the 2.3 uses a bolt, or the other way around. So a simple look which will tell you.

some trackcars have been converted to group a historic rally cars in Ireland and Belguim as they are now allowed to run in FIA historic events under 80s group a rules and have to be road registered. Other than that they are still with the same people who have had them and enjoyed them for years.
I do agree that any fun trackday car is going to cost a lot to convert, but E30 M3 rallycars in the right spec are 100k plus

Estimate £40-50K + buyers premium +VAT
Hammer price of 47k gbp. So approx 44k back to seller and a price of approx 52k gbp to buyer..

I think that's a sensible price tbh.

It seems to be a good car. Whereas a lot of the cars currently listed at or near that price are no where near as desireable.

What head is that for ?

Black car is nice but subject to a huge markup on it's known sale price.

It's no regular S14 head, which is what I thought all the racers used a version, so this is a bespoke head from the factory ?
