Sounds like you might as well get a £40k ish upwards 215bhp car and add your own Sport Evo bits. Spoilers, custom trimming a pair of front Recaros, steering wheel, wheel repaint is probably under £5k's worth of parts and easily fitted yourself.

The white car in the link at £68k is exactly that. Given the lack of detail in the ad, I'm not seeing why its not a £40k with a couple of k of extras. That might be being unfair to the car if its been partly restored and genuine rust free with engine and gearbox rebuilds, but either way it doesn't look cheap.

Then again, if you can afford a Sport Evo , why not get one ? Would you drive a £100k plus car in the way you want to enjoy it, or end up a garage queen and investment you don't wish to use ?

This place in Portugal looks interesting as a one-stop-shop for total restoration. They seem to have done quite a few UK M3s and other desirable BMWs

I agree about the mantis car. It was on sale for 35ish a year or so ago. suddenly its 75.Ridiculous. If I could get hold of a sport evolution which was genuine investment grade and low miles I would go for it. I will be honest I wouldn't pay 145 grand for parkway specialists car. I have a project in mind where I will home some I drive and some will be investments. I have seen the RS garage thank you for that suggestion; there is also a place in poland - stint polish point =looks phenomenal on Facebook!

I wanted to see if there was recommendations in England because I like to be able to communicate/see the job/easier to deal with

Not sure if this is going to work- but i got emailed pics of basically what i want - sport evolution copy - in red - and some pics of the restoration in spain.. car in germany - but advertised at a whopping 93k euro

so I have some amateur questions:

1. if i bought an m3 - who would i go to project the restoration? - munich legends ? anyone in particular? who is the best?/split jobs?
2. where can you source a SE interior? will it all look like cheap copies?
3.if i want it to be a modern drivable car - what things would you upgrade and to what on the original car? e.g. what shocks etc?
4. estimated costs of restoration ? I would want rust proofing etc.. and then just drive the darn thing! no garage queen here!
Lots of knowledgable people here, so a great place to start and certainly why I come here. wink

I'm biased but ARM (down here in Cornwall) have looked after my car in recent years and Joe (the owner) owns and competes in his own E30 M3. My car has gone from tired but basically sound, to something a bit more special. It hasn't been cheap but no E30 M3 ever is in my experience. He has several in his workshops as I type and has done a couple of full nut and bolt resto's at what I would deem sensible money.

Any used E30 M3 parts are rare nowadays and equally expensive. They do come up though and there was a full interior recently for about £2.5K I think? You can get similarly styles Recaro from other cars though and possibly retrim? I prefer track focussed stuff myself, so OE interiors aren't something I've really looked into. I did re fit a carpet after I had the floor pan done, cage strengthening and paint though. Mainly as protection from grit etc but the added little bit of sound deadening is no bad thing. I also retained OE glass to keep things a little more civilised. Well as civilised as a track focussed M3 can be anyway. wink

I would suggest similar engine mods to my own, in order to make a more modern, reliable and usable car. The swap to DTA standalone ECU, Schrick cams, DTM air box etc give a reliable 245 - 250 bhp and combining that with a lower ratio final drive ratio will pep things up nicely. I know 250 brake doesn't sound like much by modern standards but it's the way that power is delivered and the light weight of the E30 that makes up for things. My car is plenty fast enough and sounds glorious. You can obviously push things further and get more power but modifying an S14 costs ££££'s! I could have bought an E46 M3 with what I spent on my engine rebuild and upgrades!

Suspension on my car is KW but there are plenty of alternatives out there. I started with an H&R kit before I went with true coilovers and they're fine for fast road use. Bilstein also do a decent set up but again, I think that's more fast road than track, so it'll come down to what you prefer?

Unfortunately photo bucket ruined the earlier pages but this thread covers most of what I did with my own car over the past 4 years. If you're thinking of making modifications though, I would stick with a base model car as opposed to paying a premium for a limited edition model.

As I say though, there are plenty of people here with far more knowledge / experience than myself, so you're in the right place.

Those brake disc back plates should be satin black, not zinc passivate plated.

Also, the under side should not be fully body coloured. It should be a beige underseal that has some body colour overspray.

If you want a stock Cecotto, buy one that hasn't been touched.

What would you want it to look like?

Personally I really like that car but I think it's been taken a couple of steps too far for it to be put back to stock. It just wouldn't be worth all that effort and expense. As a car to just use and enjoy ''as is'' though, I think it's a very good prospect. I'd change those wheels, re fit a carpet and book some track days!

I guess you could always keep returning to a more stock look in the back of your mind though, and whilst enjoying the car just buy the bits you need as and when they come up?

If you want a car to modify and/or make your own, I think a car like this is a much better option. You'll pay a premium for a totally original car and there's just no point if you're going to change stuff anyway.

You could take the cage out and re fit an more OE type interior easily enough. Those engine mods are just about ideal for what you wanted and you'd save yourself a considerable amount of cash compared to starting with an untouched car.

Just out of interest, can I ask what sort of ballpark you're in re budget?

that's a really tough one, we have a fair few cars where money is tied into which need cycling but I wouldn't mind ending up with 1 to use or /1 garage queen. different cars would have to go for different purposes lol! would pain me to let go of the 997.2 c4s though..

If you are looking for a red sport evo alike, this might fit the bill. https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C974021
This was for sale a month or two ago, might be worth asking why its back up for sale/what happened etc.
