Wow. Looking through this thread and reminds me why I never go to BMW gatherings. I would never want my M3 being investigated, or personally slated. I got it for the looks, the enjoyment, the whole package.
As you guys love going into details about owners, prices etc...I'd like to say I have never felt some uncomfortable in a car group.
Looking at e30 m3 threads on facebook for example there are bitter grown men who are upset about prices. (Some being very racist and opinionated)
You guys have lost a lot of respect from a fellow m3 owner.
Taken the fun out of the ownership.
Bring the class back and some of us might join you.
Dreading the day I have to sell mine. Its the owners who think they are helping the community but will make it very difficult to sell.
There's more to this world
There’s a lot of members on here who have owned their e30 m3 here for a very long time and some who have gone through a good few of them. Most of them on here do know what they are talking about. They have been following the prices for a very long time and some of them know the cars and give the heads up if there’s something wrong with it. If you don’t like it on here then jog on.As you guys love going into details about owners, prices etc...I'd like to say I have never felt some uncomfortable in a car group.

The advert is a bit cackly written tbf."1st reg uk, 23/4/1991. Was a well-known celebrity"

Assuming they mean first owner was well known. How many well known people in '91 would have bought a E30M3? And not a 911?
I don't even know any particularly famous previous owners. Terry Rymer (motorcyclist) had one or 2 I think. Jay Kay had one, but I think he sold it, once he'd scratched the itch (which seems to be what he does)

An unusual technique! :-)https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...
I don't get it. An excellent car is up for sale for about a year at a price which would scare most people off and now goes to auction with a guide price which is way too cheap.....auction houses shouldn't be allowed to use teaser guide prices just to get people to auctions. If that sells for £85k plus costs I'll eat my hat. That Black Series CLK also has a daft guide price too.....

It may have a reserve way in excess of the £85K but it might be a reality check on ACTUAL value to the dealer concerned!
CLK Blacks are 60-70Ish AFAIK.
DTMs are in the 250K area!
Very sorry I have not been active and away - really busy/ unwell at same time!
- random post about not liking this group or the scrutiny you feel of owning a bmw m3....
THIS IS A FANTASTIC source of information from everyone drawing their knowledge together and who would want someone to spend £100k on a banger? This group of enthusiasts seem to all look out for each other .. I can't see anybody here saying 'my car is better than yours'.... not going to entertain it anymore
- The one for auction at silverstone is the parkway car.. i recognise the car reg. when I asked them about it..
- what are peoples opinion of the car?...do you think it will sell../ sell for over 100 etc?
- I have bought at auction before where the estimate was half what I bought the car for..just to drum up interest..
2nd part... theoretically, if you wanted a 100k car... because I have never financed.. how do people here do this on here? if you are buying at auction you have to have the money ready sharpish.. has anyone got a finance package where they pay per month and refinance the balloon at end of say 5 years...? Just wondering how people may buy very expensive cars when they do not have the lump cash upfront?
Many thanks guys! - love the group and the intelligent people on here!

It's definitely the Parkway car, the reg is on the their website.
Although the bottom estimate plus costs would be £97k and change, I think it'll go for £115-120k inc auction fees, it looks a great car.
Now haven't got the cash to buy at either price but that CLk Black Series still keeps winking at me!
My 2p's worth, as a 83k mile SE owner, if Parkway had that car up for £ 100k they would have sold it, imo, I will be surprised if Silverstone net the owner(s) any more the £100k if that at all.
Looks like a nice car yes but as a collector, which I am not, I'd want a lower mileage car with a more consistent MOT history, certainly would want to see advisories for tyres worn close to the legal limit and rear subframe bushes worn...

I think I agree with you regarding you regarding history of the car etc. need a good solid record.
when MOT flags..'rear sub-frame rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement'...does this mean the car has been tracked?
Just hard to find a good/well looked after one with low miles. I remember one came up for sale for ~£180k...3k km on clock... sold on the day.

Not necessarily no. The RTAB's will wear and deteriorate on a car used exclusively on the road or indeed on a 'garage queen'. They are made of rubber and the rubber will dry out and crack and perish over time, this will lead to movement.when MOT flags..'rear sub-frame rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement'...does this mean the car has been tracked?
...........
What it does possibly suggest is a lack of preventative maintenance for these items to be advised on a MOT test given that a MOT is a minimum standard of road worthiness.
These cars like to be driven, putting them away for months or years on end can cause issues, specifically poor running and as mentioned suspension bush issues.
They are very strong cars by design, it’s just that the design isn’t very modern.
Having bought and restored one, if I wanted one to drive rather than just show, I’d buy one that was being used regularly.

Good to know mate! Can you tell us a bit more about the restoration? what did you have done? etcThey are very strong cars by design, it’s just that the design isn’t very modern.

I am open to getting a bog standard m3 and 'upgrading' it to how i want and also make it more useable for daily..any suggestions on what you would modify?
I would rather have a car that has seen a race track over one that has sat idle for long periods. Most people I know (who track their cars) take good care of them and do things like oil changes before and/or after events.
Whilst it's nice for those of us that own cars, it's a shame that values keep so many from being used as intended. I can only think of a couple of people who still track their Evo's.
What mods you do will really depend on a) what you intend using your car for? and b) what your budget is?

I hear you. I wasn't intending to use on track but for the odd sprint here n there. Nice sports exhaust etc. suspension upgrade if needed.. things that would improve the experience of the drive..Whilst it's nice for those of us that own cars, it's a shame that values keep so many from being used as intended.
