The EuropaMeister's down another £5K to £57,500 now.

Remember this was listed at an optimistic £89,950 in January smile

Owner said 2400 odd miles in 16yrs. That's quite sad really, averaged out at 155miles per year. Ok it's gone up in value but has it even been enjoyable once you factor in insurance, storage, bills etc

His pleasure was owning it and improving it, cleaning it etc etc, it has kind of got too valuable to use much now which is why it is for sale, a price has been agreed I believe subject to receiving a deposit on Monday.
It really is a lovely car.

Yep, that's it. I'm nowhere near brave enough to dip that.

Agreed. And echoing Steve's comment previously, there is some serious wallet damage potential here...

127,500 Euros of Restoration (roughly £110K GBP) and they want £150K for it laugh Why wouldn't I just buy an average car for £30K and have the same work carried out myself? laugh

Also redcard for listing the history of the E30M3 in the ad!

Three reasons I can think of:
  • The restoration costs were 6 years ago. Not going to be cheaper now, and parts availability unlikely to be easier.
  • Restoration to that level is basically blank-cheque stuff. Do you feel lucky?
  • You're missing out on the enjoyment of owning/driving the car for probably a year or more while the work's going on.
It's a staggering sum, but it does look literally 'showroom'. http://bmw-classic.de

A friend is currently doing a full resto on his Japanese sports car. Had the shell dipped and e-coated (By the bodging animals in Birmingham! - A story for another time!) Full respray, full engine rebuild, new suspension etc. He's currently in for about £15k. His pretty accurate estimate is £50-60K all in by the time its done. And he is running into problems with parts availability. Even allowing for his own labour costs. It would never be £110K if done professionally.

Sure, BMW Classic will be at the top end. But there's more than enough decent crafts people out there to restore to "beyond factory". X works obviously springs to mind. But some of the specialist restorers out there who work on Italian metal are more than competent to do a M3 justice. And probably at a point where a £30K "needs work car" would be cost effective.

Stranger question is why anyone would restore a 1987 car to that level. Assuming (yeah I know biggrin ) the owner was sufficiently wedged in any case. Why not get a SportEvo to that level instead?

EDIT TO ADD

Just perusing eBay.

What's the score here?

Presumably finger trouble. The previous 15 "sold" ones went for £165, not £9165.

That M3 for sale at DK engineering is full of mistakes and poor details.

Despite the cachet of it being restored by BMW Classic they could have done better!

£149K is laughable.

Correct if wrong, but I think I got - Split handbrake grip, black carpet ( rear trim bit under the seat looks anthracite ) and mats ( genuine BMW wrong colour expensive replacements ) wrong colour foam above the tool tray, black tool tray holding stray, black handle screwdriver , seats trimmed and pipped incorrectly ( no one ever gets close to originals with these ) , blue throttle caps when yellow are available, green sticker on the power steer cap, body sill covers look full gloss and not satin, front grill M3 badge look incorrectly positioned, and on the scuttle where the VIN is stamped, odd wavy line/crease.
